Gil Brandt, NFL.com
Yes, Craig, I do think Dan Reeves would be able to help Dallas in many ways. One, he's an excellent coach. Two, he is very aware of what needs to be done for success both in games and during the offseason.

By the way, when I signed Dan as a free agent, we paid him a whopping $14,000 contract and a $1,000 signing bonus!

Walt Garrson got a horse trailer one year as a bonus:)

If I remember correctly, Charlie Waters got 15,000 or 20,000 (not sure, maybe 5,000) and a promise from Gil Brandt, a new pair of alligator boots/shoes, which when his bonus check arriived the cost of the shoes were deducted from his bonus!

I might have the money figures wrong, but it was funny that Gil deducted the shoes/boots.

Walt was shocked he got that much, he said in his book my dad worked long and hard and did so for little and here the Cowboys are willing to pay me much more to play football. I wish there was more of this attitude. I don't begrudge players the money but stop and think for a second it is a game and guys are getting paid extremely well compared to most all occupation to play it.

right Doomsday, i think the players now in this era should really look and learn what these players had to play, work, sweat, to build the NFL

i think some of these players now days are taking things for granted

No doubt, there were players who had jobs to go to after the season was done. I'm glad they get paid very well but I don't care to hear them whining about not getting 10 million instead I got this measly 8 million. It is like you want to shake them and tell them to listen to themselves, many people are hard working people trying to make ends meet and you have some player moaning because he got 8 mill instead of the 10?

Manny just turned down 25 million from the Dodgers for 1 year. What a Country.

I know to play a game and a game that has really changed their lives to begin with. If not for MLB does Manny really think he would live the life style he has? Manny needs to remember base a ball has been a very very good to Manny. :laugh2: MLB was around before Manny and it will be here after he is gone and while I want to see guys getting paid I think some of this goes beyond reality

My personal view is money is what will one day ruin sports, not just from the players but owners as well. I do know many people who have gotten to the point they don't care any more about sports be it MLB,NBA or NFL they would just as soon go watch a high school game where the love of the game is all that matters.

I know this is totally off the subject but then guys like Bob Hayes die broke. The NFL and it's players need to start getting some of their pie in the hands of the old timers that are truely in need, but somehow i get the feeling a majority of the people involved doen't really care as much as i'd like.
