Release! I guess the Texans are really house cleaning
That is amazing. He was their big FA acquisition when he went there last year (or was it the year before). I saw him play a few times and thought he played pretty well. I wonder what the story is there.

I know they went from a 3-4 to a 4-3 but I would think he could play in either system. I guess he is their LaRoi Glover.

Jack, it was 2 years ago, and he's a DT in a 4-3, or at least he was in Minny, who do the Texans have at DT? that could be the answer as to why he was cut, or if we do any digging and find some dirt

I thought he had come to Houston from a 4-3 system (but I couldn't remember where) and in Houston he played on a 3-4. That is why I said I thought he could play in either system. And of course it stands to reason that whoever they put ahead of him had a lot to do with why he is gone. I just find it courious considering how big a deal it seemed to be for them to get him.

I think he's gone because w/ the move to the 4-3, he had to move to DT, and he got beat out by 2 players, and they couldn't afford to keep him around as a backup, since the general idea at 1st was for him to be one of their 3-4 DEs

Houston is a 4-3, I think. If not, they sure wasted a pick on Mario Williams, who is definitely not going to make any hay as a 3-4 DE.

Smith played in a 4-3 with the Titans, he then went to the Texans and was a DE in their 3-4 defense.

They were a 3-4 defense under Dom Capers. Kubiak took over this season and now they're a 4-3.

Now that makes sense. Thanks. I guess he is getting squeezed out like Glover then.

he was a DT in the 4-3 and a DE in their 3-4.

I think it has more to do with Robaire Smith being not that good than the scheme. He was a huge disappointment in Houston, and reportedly didn't display a very good work ethic after cashing in his signing bonus check.

I think that's the case too, that they found less-costly, better players

Sounds like Andre Carter....he blew in the 3-4 but thrived in the 4-3...but he was a pass rushing DE...we'll see what happens now...lets be happy that our own Greg Ellis has been good in both and should see some single teams with Ware on the other side possibly garnering doubleteams.

Bingo. That is always a risk with signing free agents as we well know.

When exactly did Carter thrive?
