You can bet that the Playstation gets Apple TV functionality. You'd probably see a HUGE increase in the availability of downloadable games. Maybe even some new releases would go straight to download.
To be honest, PS3 just doesn't offer much that I want because Sony is so far behind as far as online gaming is concerned.
If Appple stepped in and started integrating Apple stuff into everything and built up the online aspect, I'd consider getting their product. Then again, I've had multiple Apple products and not a single one has disappointed yet so I might be a shill for Apple.

Sure there are other great offerings out there, but I tend to trust Apple more... and I am PC guy in business...
I am sure Android will be great, but who are they going after? Apple... Why? because the iPhone experience is a great product...
I'm sure they could improve the PS... nothing to lose as Sony has great name recognition...
I think it could be a cool thing to watch...

But they do have a ton of cash (over $50 billion, compared to Sony's market cap of around $30 billion), so who knows what they'd blow it on.

Honestly, I think it would be a foolish acquisition. Sony value is still pretty high, but they just aren't the company they used to be. Sony used to be front line almost everything electronic that they sold. I don't know of a single product that is front line anymore.

I see acquiring Sony as a no-win situation. First and foremost, it would spread Jobs to thin. He can't run both (much less all of Sony's entities) by himself. Considering he is an absolute control freak, I can't see that happening.

Apples certainly needs some sort of add-on to get into the home delivery of video arena, assuming they want to get in beyond the $99 Apple TV. I'm sure they're not looking at gaming consoles just for gaming consoles. They're looking at a cross-platform gaming universe -- a unified system.nyc;3668226 said:

A lot of things can be said about Apple as a company, gaudy design is not one of them. They are quite simply the best hardware designers in the business, which is not to say they are flawless.
As far as Apple buying Sony, why would they? Sony has their hand in so many things that Apple has fought long and hard to stay out of. Apple doesn't want to be putting out alarm clocks, tv remotes, and car speakers. And if they did, they could certainly do that without Sony.
