Wow wow wow Apple might buy Sony

Apples certainly needs some sort of add-on to get into the home delivery of video arena, assuming they want to get in beyond the $99 Apple TV. I'm sure they're not looking at gaming consoles just for gaming consoles. They're looking at a cross-platform gaming universe -- a unified system.

Thats not Apples way. They take something, strip it down into the most simple possible item, then refine the interface on it. Simple and sleek. Thats Apples way. There is no way they want a globular mess of a product.

Like I said though. There is no money in gaming consoles. Even if you tie a TV to it which is even less likely to work as it will make the product that much more expensive and tied to the TV.

Plus, I can't see EA spending $50-100M on a video game not knowing if Jobs is going to reject it when they finish. A simple mobile app? Sure, but not that type of money.

NYC is right. The Wii is still losing money and MS and Sony to this day still lose money on the actual hardware being sold for their games.

BTW:

I hate Apple

The Wii isn't losing money. They accomplished that by going cheap on the hardware and selling so many of them.

Problem is that they keep losing the real gamers now that the novelty has worn off.

Maybe I should have said Nintendo. I am a huge fan of them and I wish for a better direction from the company. They really need to start delivering better games quicker and start pushing more titles that got them there in the 1st place. They need MORE depth/content.

I can't wait for the 3DS. WoW! Looks awesome. :p:

Nintendo is losing money though.

A unified system is not Apple's way?

Not sure what company you're referencing.

I was gonna get the 3DS for Kid Icarus alone, but if the rumored prices are accurate I'll pass.

I hate handhelds period, but I'm definitely picking up the 3DS. Simply because the greatest game ever, Ocarina of Time, is getting remade for it. The rest of the awesome looking titles are just icing on the cake.

I just don't see Jobs spending that kind of cash it would take to purchase either let alone Sony or Adobe.

Say whatever to boost stocks, I suppose. There are alot of companies w/ billions on hand. Apple isn't the only one.

Microsoft is going after Adobe so jobs is making a play because then Microsoft can kill Mac by not making a Photoshop and other stuff for Macs.

So Steve has to look at that and think hard about Adobe

On the Sony side the last thing I will ever play in MMORPG is a SOE game they have been a cluster you know what and have ruined more games than you can shake a stick at

But they do have a ton of cash (over $50 billion, compared to Sony's market cap of around $30 billion), so who knows what they'd blow it on.

Would certainly be an interesting development, if anything.
That was my thinking.... Any company with that much cash is positioning for some sort of acquisition or takeover.... No smart businessman has a business with that much unproductive assets sitting there, they're planning something. Would be nice to see them finally take over Adobe and integrate Flash into their products. Plus all of Adobe's more sophisticated Suites were already essentially Apple complements (any good photographer using Photoshop/Lightroom already used Apple for the screens). From an academic standpoint, being a Business Admin/Marketing major, I am extremely interested in what moves Jobs makes with that much cash.

BTW, are they sure about the $50 billion in cash? I see it highly unlikely they could have that much b/c in their last quarterly report (9/25/10) they only had $11.26 billion of cash on hand. If they're talking Cash & Short Term then you're looking at $25.6B so they cash had to have come from somewhere.... From what I see their total assets only add up to $75 billion....

Sorry for not being more specific -- it's $51 billion of cash, equivalents, and marketable securities. About $25 billion is in long-term government & corporate securities. Another $14 billion is in short-term government & corporate securities, and the remaining $11 billion is in cash and equivalents.

Of course, they also have plenty of gunpowder in terms of stock.

Hey theogt,

Mr. Jobs is never going to let you into his life. In the end, you will just turn out to be a jilted lover who never got any love. :muttley:

What's funny is that before the iPhone I disliked Apple and never had any use for their products. The difference I guess is that my opinion is based off actual utility of the product and will change based on the facts whereas others simply have an irrational hate for certain tech companies as if it were a rival football team. I don't care who makes the product; as long as I like the product.

Weird, huh?

No, not weird at all. What I find weird is you justify your extremely love for Apple with what appears to be a straight logical choice, but at the same time you turn a blind eye to everything else and won't hear any other position. That is illogical.

Very much reminds me of the Youtube cartoon video that is under the title "apple vs htc evo". Can't link to it due to language in the video.

Of course, you can't actually point to any that I've turned a blind eye to. If you make a point and I counter the point, I'm not turning a blind eye -- I'm just disagreeing with you.

They acquire companies all the time but in the end, they have a good thing going. I don't see why they'd take on Sony's burdens.
