Besides the CB and the LG spots ..i think one of the more upfront battles will be for the 4th WR spot.

- We have two legit 4.4 40 time speedsters that will be vying for that role,
Devin Smith is a former highly regarded draftee that was picked by Jets high in 2nd rd. but career rocked by injuries. His lone moment was totally jet- burning famed CB Josh Norman on a fly-go route for a long TD. He also caught a big pass vs Fins but wasn't heard from again remaining year.
Did he just disappear ?.. was something going on him vs with WR coach Sandray Lai ..?

- Most are aware of Jonvea Johnson's issues with drops, but i thought some of his problems like a number of rookie WRs was wearing down and hitting a fatigue wall as grind of camp went on.
While he has over the top burst and can use it to separate, maybe he's not a natural catcher, maybe it was a reason why he went undrafted.

i really think if Johnson cannot be out Devin Smith for the 4th WR spot, then he just has to beat
out Cedrick Wilson for the 5th WR role, imo. .

- i'm not the biggest Wilson fan. i question his durability and toughness, can't seem to stay healthy,
and think he's an average big possession WR and a returner, i thought his one big punt return last year in preseason was more just a lucky break vs poor coverage by fringe bubble roster guys than him being special as a punt returner.
- But unlike Johnson, at least Wilson has that return experience to offer.

- Ventell Bryant despite his lucky break wide open end zone TD vs Rams in a blowout win in '19. i don't think he offers anything as a receiver but he clearly stands out as a very effective gunner on special teams. He immediately hit the round running as a special teamer and i figure coach Fassel is gonna want tokeep as many as those fellas at hand
- and it's yet another area Johnson does not offer.

Good post. Smith can play. No doubt about it. I am not sure what happened to him last year. Flashed and disappeared. I think this is his year. Dallas has great WRs but they need a burner. A burner will take this offense to the next level.

If Aaron Parker gets a chance I think he can open some eyes.

Possibly as a traditional type slot guy.

Easy...Devin Smith can run routes and catch / hang on to the ball....Johnson can’t do either, he only has speed.

Take a guess who will be the camp favorite on here though based on last years hype.

he disappeared because of some guy that clapped on the sideline deactivated him after a few good games.

PS guy for this year. Unless injuries happen. However I do admit I do not know much about him. But too much depth in front of him.

Devin Smith 2019 -
Active for only 4 games, one game only 6 snaps, no targets.
5-9 113yds 4 first downs, 1 TD, 0 drops, 12.6 ypt 137.5 QB rating when targeted
On the targets we gave him, he was *fantastic*.

Last preseason, he was just clearly better than all the WRs below Tavon. More competent, as you'd expect from a guy with years of experience. But he showed up in the regular season too. Then they sat him. Garrett so deserved to get fired.

The usual talk is that they made him inactive because he didn't play special teams, though he was touted as a top gunner coming out of college. Seemed weird to me, and weirder still that Nick, who has been screaming for outside speed for years, didn't let out a peep about Devin being benched for Ventell and Cedrick.

Who is " Nick" ?

I would keep the two fast guys as your 4th and 5th and hold on to a 6th if you can get away with holding 6 WRs

With 3WR looking like our base, I expect us to go *at least* 6 WR for adequate bodies. I expect we bring in a veteran.

Johnson, Ventell, and Wilson have 6 catches between them, Smith has 15 on his career.

I think a lot of Smith, but I'm not gonna say he's a proven commodity. I think we need more at WR. Maybe they get comfortable enough in training camp with Smith as the 4th. I'll shed no tears about losing Ventell or Wilson if we can't get them on the PS.

4 and 5 need to be ST players. Jarwin is basically a big WR. Doubt many 4 wr sets are planned as our best 5 catching the ball are the 3wr, Jarwin, and Zeke
