WR Matt Jones has been hindered by soft-tissue injuries

If you can't beat out Dennis Northcutt, you need to go sell Avon or something.

Matt Jones, WR Tuesday 6/10, 2:26 PM CT

Matt Jones has been hindered by soft-tissue injuries that continue to cut into his practice time, according to Jaguars.com. Receivers' coach Todd Monken commented, "When Matt’s been healthy, I think he’s made tremendous strides. I think he’s made more contested catches, the possibility of getting hit. I’ve been excited to see Matt compete."

Our View: Jones has fared well when able to practice, but could ultimately be in jeopardy of not making the final roster. Jerry Porter and Reggie Williams are projected to start, with Mike Walker and Dennis Northcutt battling for positioning as the third and fourth receivers. Troy Williamson is working behind them, and is said to be a favorite to make the team. Jones would be out of the mix if the team doesn't decide to carry six receivers.

The possibility of getting hit in OTAs is pretty slim. The receivers and really any player has a different mind set when they are not in pads.

Stash, why would you want someone who already is having injury issues and were not even in a contact camp yet?

Let's just say I'm less worried about Jones' current issue than I am about Terry Glenn's bone-on-bone knee condition.

Jones returned to practice.

Where's Glenn?

Oh yeah, that's right.....

Thanks buddy, I do try.

And it also seems to at least give us something to talk about.

Otherwise, it's mostly dead in here as of late.

More like 'cause he's broken beyond repair.

If you want to fhold out hope for Glenn, that's your prerogative.

Me, I've already lived through 2007 and don't want to live through a repeat.

Terry Glenn's problems don't mean that it is worth trading a draft pick to get Matt Jones. I don't think Glenn will do anything for Dallas this season. I don't want Dallas trading a pick to get Jones. If Jones is released I doubt it will happen until the final cuts of the pre-season. At that time Dallas can look into signing him if they want. By then Dallas will have a good idea as to how well their receiving corp will look. They will know what they have in Hurd, Austin, Stanback and anyone else in camp.

No exculsively Matt Jones, but I'd like to see the team do something rather than letting this situation linger.

Yeah, but they'd have to worry about waiver claims and by that point, Jones (or anyone else) wouldn't be much help not knowing the playbook.

I guess it depnds on your definition of a 'failure'.

One thing I know is that Jones' current injury problems aren't season or career ending.

Jones at best would be brought in as the 3rd receiver. TO and Crayton are clearly #1 and #2. By the end of the pre-season, either Hurd or Austin may claim the #3 spot. Even if they don't, one of them can hold the role for a few weeks until Matt Jones or any other receiver brought in learned the play book.

Matt Jones isn't coming in to be the #2 guy. I do wish that Dallas had someone better than Crayton at #2, but they don't. I don't see how they will get someone better than Crayton at this time unless they pull off a major trade. And Crayton is better than Jones.
