Looks like a good prospect. Fresno State has some good players every year, thoguht seemed to be a bit on the down this season. Paul Williams was pretty good against Oregon. So was your RB. But who isn't running well against Oregon.

there's a couple of NT prospects, one from Miami, had a heck of a year this year, 10 sacks I believe, and Stanley Dougherty from South Carolina, big boys w/ talent

I assume your talking about Kareem Brown at Miami?

I don't really believe him to be a great 34 NT fit. Looks to be a little weak against the run to me. I think he'd make a pretty good DE in a 34 but I don't know about NT.

Doughty could be a nice NT prospect. He's built low to the ground and has nice size.

Still, I like this kid from Utah better. Word is that he is collapsing pockets against everybody he faces at the Shrine practices.

it's actually Weddle from Utah, Eric, that I'm saying Dallas should talk to,

Sorry, it was Wendling who they were talking to...

I like him a little bit better than Wendling, but that's mainly because I think CB/FS tweeners have better coverage skills than normal safety prospects,

Uhhh, Wendling played some corner in college, too... I prefer him to Weddle because of the size factor...

it's funny how alot of the players Dallas usually talks to at offseason workouts are ones that I find myself already interested in

Only about half of those players were on my list... as it stands now, I have just over 100 players targeted, but I always make a point of including players that I've read the Boys have shown some interest in, so that list will be growing by a few players in the next couple-three days...

we're talking about 2 different players, both safeties, Eric Weddle from Utah, and John Wendling, your guy from Wyoming

Oh, I know who Weddle is, I just didn't realize that was who you were talking about...

It happened in a question and answer segmant.

BTW, there is another player at Utah of interest IMO.

Paul Soliai. He's a DT that will probably make a fine NT. He was moved from OT to DT and is unbelievebly strong. He could be a nice player.

I like Soliai a lot... I'd certainly approve of drafting a 340 pound NT who can run a little in the 5th or 6th round range, which is where he's currently projected...

I have seen both of these players play personally. I can tell you that of the two, I felt Weddle was the superior player. Wendling is a bigger player by about 20 lbs but I don't think he's nearly as good in coverage. I don't recall Wendling playing Corner while at Wyoming but I do know that he can played both Strong and Free Safety. I guess we'll see. To me, Wendling is like what we have now. Big Safety who doesn't really excell in coverage. He's decent but I wouldn't call him great. I don't watch every Wyoming game by any means but he just didn't stand out to me in coverage. Good tackler. I watched him have a 10 tackle game against us one year but not suprior in coverage IMO.

My understanding is that he's showing pretty dominant in the Shrine practices. Not getting sacks but just pushing the pocket back against all comers. He might cost more then just a 5th or 6th if he continues this and shows well at the combine. Having said that, I'm with you Silver. I'd love to get him for a 5th or 6th.

Well, I haven't seen either player, I'm just going by the scouting reports... but I will say that the scouting report on Weddle at NFLDraftCountdown isn't as glowing when it comes to his cover skills as your analysis is... they said:

As a safety he won't be a great fit in coverage or in the box...

I've read elsewhere that he's kickin' butt and takin' names, too... and as you say, if he does too much of that, he's bound to move up the draft boards...

That's very surprising to me. I mean, he's a DB that has played all positions in the defensive backfield. He's the two time MWC defensive player of the year and a consensus all american. All five teams had voted him on. That's just very surprising to me. It's definatly not how I saw these two players. I do think that a great deal will depend on how he times at the Combine. I don't see him as a Strong Safety in the NFL. Definatly as a Free where as, I do see Wendling as a Strong only. It was reported that Wendling timed in at around a 4.38 earlier in the year but honestly, he doesn't play like that. He plays slow. Not very fluid in the hips and doesn't turn and run with the ball very well. Just looks stiff to me. JMO but I think Weddle is going to be a little bit better and healthier version of Berry-O. I think he might time in the high 4.4s by the time the Combine rolls around. I just think he's one of those players that understands the game. He sees it and is just always in position to make plays. He was uncanny good in the MWC these past 3 years.

From what I saw, looked like a faster Crayton to me, which is pretty darn good.

At first hit, he won't go down - So tackle breaking is very good, something Crayton and TO has. Looks like he fights for the ball, and if he's fast which was hard to tell, then look out.

I was at last years shrine game and let me just say....what Colston did this year did not take me by surprise. He had me in awe at the Shrine game. He had size, speed, good leaping ability, and really sold out to make the catch. He was physical and even blocked for the run.

I remember leaving that game impressed with Colston and OG Rob Sims......

It is too bad they moved the game to Houston. I definitely would have gone this year again had it been in San Antonio...I really enjoyed the game.

of course they probably talk to alot of players during the week, and what not. but boy i would love to have paul in dallas. great guy, and has his head on right. not to mention the kid is blzing fast

I like his run after the catch, but for a fast guy his highlights don't show him getting much separation (of course, it doesn't look like his QB could have hit him on the run if he did).

Well, let me put it to you this way-- though I have immense respect for the folks at NFLDraftCountdown.com, I don't think they're completely infallible... in addition, your posting history gives you a measure of credibility with me...

So, if you say the guy's strong in coverage, I'm willing to believe that they might be misjudging him a little in their analysis...

That said, the fact the Cowboys showed some interest in Wendling leads me to move him up my draft board a bit...

NFLDraftCountdown lists him as a 4.5 40...

yeah, pinegar didnt have a strong arm. paul basically had to come to a stand still on that 98 yrd td. of course he threw the ball from 1 side of the field to the other. ut still the ball barely reached the 37 yrd line.

i've seen people on here talk about him having T.O type qualities. and i see that too. like owens he never really gets seperation, but his strength allows him to make the tackler miss or get out of posistion. but dont get it wrong on a fly and a qb with a arm, he'll run past quite a few cb's in the nfl.

but like i said he's raw still. he'll drop some passes that he should make. but he's getting better by the yr. pat hill, and steve hagan really have a thing for getting these players ready for the nfl. as u seen recent bulldogs with success in the nfl

It will be interesting to see what the combines reflect. Lord knows, these things change like the direction of the wind from January to April.
