WR Speculation

I want a dynasty if we could pick up another #1 WR him him play in #2 for the next 2 years and then be our #1 after TO is gone then thats even better for us.

I don't think so maybe right now they will get more catches than back then however I don't think they would be able to take catches from RW and Crayton. Nor do I think bennett will have more than 15 catches.

And if you want a more explosive offense then give the ball to-- now say it with me!

"FELIX JONES"

I know that hurts, but you know as well as I do that Felix Jones is more explosive than Roy Williams ever thought of being.

Go watch Philly's offense and tell me how important a dominating #1 WR is, without even considering a Roy Williams-type of receiver for the #2.

what does what ever Philly does have to do with what we do???

Like you said Witten is going to get a lot more than 64 catches.

Then you list Hurd, Fasano, MB3 and JJ with a total of 51 catches.

I can tell you that Bennett, Austin, Hurd, MB3 and FJ will have more catches than that total.

The fact is that this offense is built around a no. 1 WR, a TE and everyone else is a distant 3rd.

The #2 receiver in this offense isn't that important quite frankly.

And you think that's 'by design' rather than based on what the team has - or in this case - doesn't have?

There's a reason that Crayton had zero catches Sunday Night.

And I don't think that was by design.

And how many catches did the #1 WR have?

You see a #1 or a #2 WR on that offense right now?

And they seem to be moving the ball pretty well.

Are you talking about the #1 Wr that was double teamed the whole night ?

Yeah, double-teamed-- all night.

Gosh, I bet TO has never been doubled before.

Personally I "blame" it on Green Bay's pass rush combined with the Cowboys ease of running the ball that made passing attempts to any WR other Austin, pretty rare.

IT IS TOTALLY FOOLISH TO TRADE A HIGH DRAFT PICK

For a Matt Millen WR - that Detroit would be giving up on.

I don't think so.

It was a good thing that WR #3 or #4 stepped up.

Hopefully it's a sign of things to come, but I wouldn't want to be forced to count on it.

their offense looked really good against the Steelers....doesn't mean we should try to duplicate what they do either.

Their offense kicked our arse too.

50 catches from Crayton is not the same thing as 50 catches from Roy. Roy gets more separation than Crayton, his YPC is better, and he is a much bigger deep threat. Crayton can be stifled by single coverage. Crayton is ideal in the slot.

Roy creates a different type of situation...

QFT !!!!

:hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

The issue isn't 'quantity' but quality. Roy will change the way defenses play, even if he is getting 50 balls. You have just created unique spacing issues for the defenses in how they try and defend T.O. and Witten.

Plus, he is the insurance for Dallas. They won't need a number #1 when TO retires...

that's true also.

And right now there are rumblings of TO being unhappy with only 2 catches over the last 6 quarters...

Yeah, bring in another guy to threaten TO's somewhat fragile psyche and see what happens.

TO is TO, he's a great receiver but when he's on your team you have to take the good with the bad.

The salary cap doesn't allow for incredible depth at each and every position-- It just doesn't work that way.

Colombo
Tank Johnson
Canty

This team is going to be facing some additional very expensive contracts in the offseason.

You just can't keep tossing huge contracts out there to shore up every position on the team. This team had to spend huge dollars to get Leonard Davis because it failed to develop offensive lineman.

I think that a TO replacement is probably going to have to come through the draft.

On a side note, TO is signed for several more seasons. I doubt he retires before the end of the 2009 season.

This team has time to develop another WR or two. No sense pushing the $$ panic button at this point.

I agree

I think Canty and Tank will be had for a market value.

I know the Cowboys want Canty and Canty wants to be a Cowboy so when 2 sides want something done it usually gets done.

Colombo and Tank both kind of owe us something. We gave both a chance and now look at them.

Columbo will be back. He'll be expensive. But he'll be back.

Tank is the fringe guy. I dont know how he feels about this franchise or anything and how much loyalty he would show us. But from watching Hard Knocks he seems like a happy solider in BIG D.
