WR Washingtons story

Yes, too bad he has hands of stone and can't run passing routes. Roy WiIlliams is probably his ceiling, that is if he can add 20lbs of muscle.

Still I like the kid a lot and pulling for him all the way, to the practice squad.

What a story.

On a football note...this reminds you of how tough it is playing on an NFL team. Every year, there is some one coming in with their own dream of taking your job.

If Dallas keeps 5 and he is somehow one of them, either Beasley or Harris are out, and that won't be easy. Harris is especially valuable all around.
They aren't cutting Dez, Williams, or Street (5th rd picks have to really screw up to not get a chance). Plus, there are a couple of other WRs that could also challenge.
Plenty of competition!

You basically hope the kids does well be it with the Cowboys or elsewhere (outside of the NFC East).

Rooting hard for this kid. He's hungry and humble and has all the tools to get it done. He either forces them to go long at 6 (hopefully can contribute on ST) or he forces a WR off the team. But I think this kid has a chance to be a good one. Heck man I'm stoked about this core of WRs. Big fast guys who can get down field fast! I really think they are looking to go vertical this year. I mean if I'm Tony I'm peeing my pants at the sight of a 6'3 Dez 6'3 Williams 6'2 Street 6'3 Washington these guys all run 4.38-4.5 40 and then throw in a 6'7 Escobar and a fast TE in a 6'4 Hanna. Those are some big targets

Roy Williams wasn't near as fast as this kid. And I'm not sure where you read he has hands of stone; from what I've read, he'll have problems getting off press with his size, which is likely worse by this issues he is having with his big toe. I'm certainly rooting for him. But, even if he goes to the practice squad, he'll receive a 500,000 contract on top of the bonus he just received, which is the 2nd highest the Cowboys gave out.

U may be right but I'll wait a little while longer. Lol a rookie FA WR isnt ecactly what I mean by hope for next season.

I think you check off item 3 on your sig.
It's probably gonna be between 6-10 new Oline or dline additions.

Hey jnday, do practice squad guys really get 500k? I thought is was much less than that (maybe 1/5th)

People put too much stock into some scouting report they see on the internet.

I've watched his game footage. He's not a natural receiver, but he's not terrible at catching the ball. There have been many successful WRs in the NFL that people would consider body-catchers. Michael Irvin did a lot of body catching.

As far as his issues of getting off press, a good coordinator/QB can eliminate alot of those issues by simply bringing him in motion.

I could be wrong...but I thought I had read somewhere that it's an automatic 500k. And, just so there is no confusion, I'm jday...jnday is some other guy and I'm not sure if there is any relation.

Salary
Practice squad players earn significantly less than players on the active roster, but they still take home a solid weekly paycheck. NFL practice squad players make a minimum of $6,000 per week they are on the practice squad. There is no limit to how much a team can pay a player on the practice squad. Some will offer a higher weekly salary in order to entice better players to sign, although the practice squad contracts do count against the salary cap.

You Sigs are the same as well, so you must be related some where down the line, congrats on finding your brother.

They don't make 500k. A few years ago it was 80k and I think it's right at 100k now.

The idea of the Practice Squad is that they are much less expensive than the lowest paid player on the 53 man roster. Ken Bishop's salary is 420k if he makes the 53 man roster.

A team can pay a practice squad player more than the minimum. They moved Leary to the Practice Squad in 2012 but paid him the same salary that he was making while on the 53.

jday. Got it. Thanks.
I did look it up. Practice squad makes a minimum of 6000/week, but teams can pay more. So for the season, the minimum is 102k.

Which is still enough to support a pretty big family.
