No way he should make the roster but given how the team drafted him in the THIRD freaking round you know they won’t cut him. And we can’t even trade him. DQ is pretty much the only dude that wants a 6’4 corner.

Wright is an interesting study. I watched the preseason game again and watched him in particular. He actually had some good coverage on WRs during the game and excellent throws by the Denver QBs beat him. I think I saw him get beat badly on 1 play when it looked like Wright did not have enough speed to keep up with the Denver receiver. But Wright was in a lot of man coverage and maybe that is not the best way to use him. I am willing to give him a few more games and see if he improves. Maybe the Denver game was just a bad game for him.

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
Highly likely we keep 6 CBs on the 53.
You have these 4 for certain:
Diggs
Brown
Joseph
Lewis
Goodwin makes the team due to his ST contributions.
That really leaves 1 spot, and Bland looks really good so far.
Guess they could keep 3 safeties instead of 4, and maybe consider Lewis a hybrid CB/S, but right now Bland looks better than Wright for that 6th spot.

Agreed.

If Wright can learn to better use his height and jam WRs at the line of scrimmage, this could help him tremendously get the upper hand on WRs when left to cover them 1-on-1. His height and length, plus decent speed, could become a positive.

They will keep Wright, as mentioned above because of his draft status. Unfortunately another position group such as the DL may lose a better player because of it.

However, before I make a final 'judgement' opinion, I will see how he does in the next 2 PS games.
Maybe they should keep him as a specialist on Hail Mary plays. :muttley:

That’s why we have pre season
Put them out there and see what they can do
Can’t say a guy shouldn’t make the roster one pre season game into his second season
People said brown was terrible but he’s developed into a solid CB
Not everyone is an instant star
That said I didn’t like the pick myself but I hope the scouts are smarter than me

I think fans tend to overreact.

One, Wright is in his second year. There is some school of thought, even by the late great Tom Landry, that players need at least three years to develop.

Two, it's one preseason game, and the very first one after just a few weeks of camp in his second season. He clearly has a lot of growing to do and may never develop into an adequate corner, but no reason to rush to judgment. If we were counting on him as a starter, I'd feel differently, but he's the fifth corner at best right now, and might be sixth if Bland continues to play like he did.

Joseph didn't impress either.

I believe Joseph only gave up one play, the TD, and it was a good throw and catch. Granted, he was not targeted much, which could just be a sign that his coverage was good.

EDIT: There may have been another reception against him, but I'll have to go back and look.

DaRon Bland over Wright all day.

I think it's important to point out that it looked like we were primarily playing Bland as the nickel corner, so the coverage responsibilities were different. If he had been outside chasing receivers down the sideline, I don't know if he would have fared much better than Wright did.

Not trying to take away from Bland's play. He did a good job with the responsibility he was given. It just needs to be kept in perspective.

I think Wrights technique is awful.

He seems to be more concerned with takeaways than covering the receiver.

I dont trust him at all out there at things stand right now.

Just because they took him in the 3rd doesn't make him a 3rd round talent. They treated that pick like a throwaway and asked an assistant who they wanted. There's certain lessons they aren't ever going to learn.

That is what I saw too.

Just some good plays made on him. Sometimes you have to tip your cap.

He was definitely drafted to be a Cover 3 corner and in that defense he would excell. I don't think we are at the point of cutting him yet but he needs to start making plays in these games.

He had a penalty in the first quarter that negated his own interception & gave up multiple big plays after that. Brandon Johnson beat him deep for a 40-yard catch, & Kendall Hinton caught a 24-yard pass on Wright for Denver’s second score.

He was a project guy when he was drafted, but it doesn’t seem like he’s improved that much.

He doesnt have recover speed, and relies on his ability to reach and bat the ball , but that doesnt work when WR gets past and QB puts it where he can catch. In my opinion, wright doesnt have CB hips, LOL

Agreed, lets give him more time and preseason games before giving up on him...

I think he has some potential still too. All this energy should be directed at #1 not at Wright.

The Cowboys just drafted him 16 months ago and he's not a ALL-PRO yet???
