A lot of the top WRs didn't run the 3 cone drill but it is supposed to test a WRs Change of direction and acceleration. The question that comes up with WRs is can they accelerate out of their break and create separation? Cooper Kupper ran a 4.62 seconds 40 but had a pretty good 3 cone time of 6.75. I know a lot of people here already know that but I had to look it up:

The 3 cone drill is one people may not be as familiar with as the other drills. It consists of a series of quick five-yard sprints and tight turns, using three cones that form an L-shape as guides.

The drill helps to identify a player’s ability to quickly change directions and how well they accelerate. It’s thought to be a useful measuring tool particularly for pass rushers, though wide receiver Jeff Maehl’s 6.42-second run in 2011 is the combine record.

Here is a list of the WR prospects that did run the three cone, their time, and their 40 time.

Calvin Austin III 3 cone 6.65 40 4.32 I can see why @stasheroo really likes him
Kevin Austin 3 cone 6.71 40 4.43
Jalen Tolbert 3 cone 7.08 40 4.49
Skyy Moore 3 cone 7.13 40 4.41
Alec Pierce 3 cone 7.13 40 4.41 Chris Simms ranked him as a top 5 receiver
David Bell 3 cone 7.14 40 4.65
Treylon Burks 3 cone 3 cone 7.28 40 4.55
Jahan Dotson 3 cone 7.28 40 4.43
Khalil Shakir 3 cone 7.28 40 4.43

I'd love to add CA3 but just don't see how they would accomplish it, unless they traded down into top of 2nd round. I think he's numbers are going to get him drafted much higher than originally thought. Probably not in the 1st, but early on day 2.

A 5'8 WR at pick 24 would be a hard risk to take with such huge needs with the Oline.
Now, picking up an additional 2nd day pick with trade down and Austin III would be worth it.

I know that he doesn't run a great 40, but I think that David Bell is being slept on by a lot of people, and he will end up being a very good pro. He can play all over the place, and is faster with the ball in his hands. Pet cat of mine.

Yes, he is another one in that late 3rd, early 4th range.

If anyone is being not mentioned it is Pierce who looks like a legit Jordy Nelson type WR to me, but all you hear about is Watson this Watson that.

I think that they would be better off with Olave, Dotson, Pickens, Watson, or Moore.

3 cone is a small receiver's game... guys under 6'0" 200 need to have both great speed and great change of direction. Big receivers can turn like a dump truck, as long as they are still fast and explosive. Think of Dez Bryant.

So a fast 3 cone is really encouraging for a guy like Calvin Austin, and a slow 3 cone doesn't really matter for Treylon Burks, that's not his game. But slow change of direction for a guy like Skyy Moore is a red flag.

For reference, Amari Cooper 3 cone 6.71 40 4.42 20 yard shuttle 3.98
Michael Gallup 3 cone 6.95 40 4.51 20 yard shuttle 4.37

It’s definitely a piece of the puzzle.

The cleanest and safest WR prospects are gonna run sub 4.5 and a sub 7 second 3 cone…giving the big bodied dudes a little more leeway.

Short area quickness is huge for route running.

I think OL at #24 is the smart pick

Just don't get a plodder. Can we get a guy that stretches the field and scares defenses over the top
