Very interesting read:

Since the dawn of the NFL, head coaches and general managers have been calling top college quarterback prospects into conference rooms to pepper them with rudimentary questions: how to attack a certain defense, for instance, or what to do when a play breaks down. The answers were sometimes dull and sometimes brilliant, but there were always answers.

This year, according to separate interviews with dozens of NFL coaches and executives, something disturbing happened in these pre-draft quiz sessions. When asked the same basic questions, many quarterback prospects responded with something NFL insiders said they have never seen before: blank stares.

When the day comes that the league's starting QB's are generally low quality, then it'll be spun as the era of great defense. The QB's that do end up winning SB's (somebody has to, right?) will be considered as elite and have their ticket to Canton punched. It's all relative.

Smart QBs will read this and know they will get drafted higher. Just know the terminology to fool the coaches during the interviews.

It won't work when the coaches put the QB on the board to draw up plays to beat those coverages.

The spread will spread to the NFL sooner than later.

There just aren't enough pocket QBs to go around and teams don't have the time to develop them.

Is it the QBs aren't prepared, or are the coaches not willing to think outside the box. The NFL is a copycat league. So many teams run the WCO, and lack the coaching chops to tailor an offense to the players they have available.

Why would a college QB need to know about defensive schemes he's never faced before? These NFL coaches are just whining because the college coaches are no longer making their jobs easier.
