While I'm glad that they got there, I wasn't completely thrilled with how they got there. So I guess I care.

But overall, I agree. The X-Men franchise is in a much better place going forward. It's anyone's guess where they go from this point.

We know they will all be battling Apocalypse in the next movie.

Yes, I think it was sufficient. Not great, but sufficient. I had no idea about the twin brother aspect. That makes things worse and I'm glad was left out of the movie. There was no explanation for Magneto getting his powers back. Also, I still don't see how the end credit scene from The Wolverine ties in.
No explanation was necessary. The final scene, before the ending credits for X-Men:The Last Stand ran, showed Erik seated in an outdoor setting (adult living facility..?) next to a chess board. For a moment, his eyes rolled slightly, like a revelation came over him. The next image shows his hand extending towards a chess piece and it moved slightly. The scene alludes to the slow return of Erik's powers. The modern day Erik next appeared at the end of The Wolverine, at which time it was apparent that his powers had returned fully.

We're past the no spoiler stage? Good. :D I wonder if they will use any CGI to morph the character? Apocalypse looks like a scrawny teenager in that scene.

Agreed.

I hope the 'grown-up' version looks a lot better for the next film.

Grrr. I KNEW I should have sat through the credits. :(
lol! My wife is the impatient type. She used to HATE me for wanting to sit through the credits. Now, not so much. I think that even she got a thrill seeing the group cafe scene at the end of The Avengers. She has been patiently (lol!) sitting through credits with me ever since. :D

I disagree. That isn't an explanation. It shows he has his powers back, but it doesn't explain why he got his powers back.

I didn't see my statement as much of a spoiler since the title of the next movie is X-Men: Apocalypse and that information was available prior to the latest movies release.

You're batting 1.000. I again assumed, this time that all members may not have heard about the sequel yet. I wished they had shown a close-up of his Four Horsemen.

I agree, it's kinda lame and erks me when I think about it. But my gosh what Ratner did was just THAT bad.

I'm with you tho, it's gonna be all about where they go from this point. This next movie has super high potential for messing up. The Apocalypse saga is gonna require a lot of adapting to fit the big screen.

Given who Apocalypse is, It'd be really neat to have both Xmen casts involved again. He can battle em future and past.

That's a damn good plot idea. I doubt there are many directors who could pull it off though.

On a side note, if Halle Berry plays in the next X-Men movie, I hope they finally allow Storm to really cut loose. She has an awesome, fearsome power, great enough to go toe-to-toe with Thor (but not hand-to-hand with that hammer lol!). To date, the most she's shown was in X2, knocking jets out of the sky.

Won't mind seeing Cyclops exhibit more of his optic beams too, since he's back in the picture (no pun intended).

Even with so many questions surrounding this movie, I still thought it was pretty great.

Do I need to do a spoiler tag? Whatever. **SPOILERS**

The future scenes were awesome. It was really hard to watch the characters being killed off, especially iceman, and I totally wasn't expecting that. But it was also pretty cool-- I mean how many times do we get to see the the heroes lose?

Most of the time the heroes are underpowered underdogs who manage to scrap it out and win. It was cool to see a glimpse of how it would really go if the bad guys who everyone is terrified of actually live up to their billing.

Given Apocalypse's powers, he can technically look like whatever he wants to, so hopefully they play with that a bit.
But I certainly hope to see his larger more robotic look at least somewhat.

I walked away pretty happy with the movie overall and it seems they righted a lot of the ridiculous screw-ups from X3. Yes, I am going to throw out some spoiler in my thoughts.

SPOILERS*******

- I loved that they focused on Xavier and Magneto instead of making it a Wolverine-centric movie like they did in X-Men 3 (Man, I hated that movie). There was a lot of Wolverine in the movie, but his purpose in the plot itself was somewhat secondary. McAvoy and Fassbender were again excellent in their roles. They need to make sure that those two make it in the next movie somehow.
- They reversed one of the most asinine moves I can remember in superhero films; bringing Cyclops back. The dude is the original X-man.
- They seem to have no clue what to do with Storm in these movies. Her dialogue in every one of them has been terrible.

Just seems to not be enough room to let the entire cast shine. Honestly I felt like other than Stewart and mckellan, the original cast was being phased out for essentially a reboot.

I'm not familiar with how contracts are negotiated for stars, but I would imagine less time in production/less speaking lines means less wages. And think about all the huge actors in that film.

Agree and agree. Any director or screenwriter worth their chops could do a lot more with both characters.

Having said that, I am still uncertain James Marsden is the best actor possible too play Scott Summers. He reminds me a lot of Ryan Reynolds playing Green Lantern: looks like Tarzan, acts like Jane. Years ago, I thought Casper Van Diem would have been a very good Cyclops. Nowadays, I think Peter Facinelli could step in the role easily. Paul Walker would have been an ideal alternative, but that's not going to happen.

It's almost criminal how unvalued Halle Berry and her Storm character have been used in the X-Men franchise. This is a character who is a top-level alpha mutant, who approaches omega mutant levels when she is pissed off. Any special effects assigned to her scenes are so-so (blow up jet with lightning, that's it). Her dialogue has mostly centered on passive wisdom narrative. Big whoop. Storm should be laying down the law and talking some smack to go along with it. Sure, her character's reserved. It has to be because of the nature of her powers, but it has been overdone. The Windrider has been anchored to the ground in these movies and that's an injustice.
