Jerry is getting robbed blind. That is alot of money for the 22nd best guard in the league. Flozell was #27. What a bunch of doughnut eating under achievers. Whats next for these guys? Government Jobs?

I don't think there was a single guy on the line who played well this last season. They were really bad to mediocre at best.

Dang, was Kozier going out just the first domino to fall? Did Houck lose his touch? When the Oline doesn't get it done, it doesn't get done...

The entire OL played poorly, but part of it has to do with the fact that there was an over-emphasis on the pass; therefore playing against the strength of this big-and-fst OL which is run-blocking.

These rankings don't work so well for interior linemen, because ALY is measured for the entire middle of the line, not to one side. So even though we ranked No. 1 in the NFL running behind right guard (in real YPC -- and almost half a yard per carry better than the No. 2 team), Davis gets punished because Cory Procter can't run block. Meanwhile, Denver was terrible running behind their right guard (30th in real YPC), but Chris Kuper scores high in ALY because they ran well behind the left guard.

Thanks for pointing that out Adam. :)

One of the few things I would bet my mortal soul on is that Leonard Davis was better than Stephen Peterman this year:)

Since every other aspect of the team's underperformance results in wanting to fire coaches, where's the outcry to fire that idiot Hudson Hauck, who is obviously stupid and needs to be replaced by a real OL coach who can get the most out of these guys.

Quite a few big names at or near the bottom of that list....

Maybe I saw only his bad games, but I did see him get beaten on pass plays more than in 2007. He seems to forget to move his feet and reach....this is when he gets beaten the most.

He is a better run blocker than pass blocker, IMO. WE NEED TO RUN THE BALL MORE AND BETTER IN 2009----IGNORE T.O.----ROMO WILL BE BETTER OFF AND THE DEFENSE WILL BE BETTER OFF.

I pointed this out in my first post of analyzing the centers. I call this "The Corey Procter effect." :)

One guy who keeps doing well is Jeff Faine. He's been in the top 2 for centers the past three seasons. And when he left New Orleans, their center ranked 15th this season. And before he went to Tampa, their center was ranked 17th.

However, the Cowboys O-Line makes way too many penalties. One of the big reasons why they struggle in these O-Line rankings. Essentially, half of the score is based on yards lost (penalty yards + sack yards allowed) and the other half is based upon run blocking stats. So while "The Corey Procter effect" did hurt the interior O-Linemen and Flozell Adams, the entire O-Line isn't doing themselves any favors by having so many penalties.

Getting Kosier healthy and having decent replacements if anybody else gets hurt would allow the team to run the ball better. I agree with your point, unfortunately Garrett is a pass first coach and rarely uses play action. You want receivers to get open, one of the best ways to do it is to run effectively and then use play action over the top.

I don't recall us being a big play action team in the early 90's. But then again I don't remember us being such a pass heavy team that uses that stupid fake slant into a draw running play either. So I'm not sure where Garrett feels like that has been successful.

Of course, those numbers are flawed, too. If the center forgets to snap the ball and the entire line moves except the center, the tackle will get called for a "false start" because he's the one closest to the ref. (Or if the center snaps the ball too early, causing a sack when the rest of the line barely moves, it's a player who knew the snap count who gets charged with "allowing" the sack.) Also, the thing I hate about the "sacks allowed" stats available is that you're rewarded for needing help. If you play left tackle and can't handle your man by yourself and you need a tight end and/or a running back to help you, you can allow a sack and get charged with allowing only half (or even a third) of a sack, and only half (or a third) of the yardage counts against you. Meanwhile, the guy who doesn't need help gets charged with the full sack and all of the yardage when he allows one. That would be like charging a cornerback with half a completion allowed and half of the yardage if he's in double coverage. It's the guy who blocks/covers 1-on-1 who should be getting rewarded, not the one who needs help.

I'm not criticizing you, Rich, I'm just pointing out how the only available stats for you to use aren't as good as they should be.

That's surprising, we haven't been able to run the ball hardly at all this season especially not in short yardage.
