Designate Alfonso Soriano for assignment (basically his release) and trade Vidal Nuno to the Diamond Backs for right-hander Brandon McCarthy.

Both good moves, but not big difference kinda moves. McCarthy has been a train-wreck out in Arizona but was a decent pitcher for Oakland.

Yankees playing better than the Red Sox. 10 games under .500. Who would have thunk it?

A lot of McCarthy's problems looks like they come down to bad luck. The high batting average on balls in play, with what is a decent defensive team, and a high home run to fly ball rate. Those are likely to regress toward normal and he could easily lose a run plus off his ERA.

The thing is that the Red Sox have some good prospects who are going to help them.

The Yankees? Just some god-awful contracts to several older players who are no longer able to either A. Play at anything close to an acceptable level or B. Are full of injury.

The roster needs a major scrubbing.

Don't follow baseball much anymore. Can't say I'm weeping over the news though. :)
