Dallas is second only to Indianapolis on the Bendability Index of Defensive Efficiency...19.8 YPPA [yards per point average]...Indy leads at 19.86...what this means is that opposing teams have to work very hard for points...it is an important post-season indicator...

...now if Dallas was 2nd in Scoreability [another post-season indicator] they'd be in very good shape and would likely be undefeated right now...but they only rank 24th...and of course New Orleans ranks 1st...

...considering they also rank 2nd in points allowed, it "seems" that Dallas finally has the type of defense that can snap the December jinx...

I've heard it all now.

Are there any stats that show that it is an "important post-season indicator?"

Wait, so the Cowboys are allowing a ton of yards but no points? How is that a measure of DEFENSIVE Efficiency? It seems more a factor of the offense and special teams giving the defense awesome field position, so they can allow yards but not points.

Seems like it's more a measure of offensive and special teams efficiency.

just take his word for it.

I understand what he is saying. making opponents drive the length of the field and all that. This year there are several explosive offensives we will play against in the playoffs. So I am not sure it means as much as it might in a different season.

It is an interesting stat, but not much more than that.

I don't think this stat means anything really. Think about it: a defense that starts a drive on the opponents 10 yard line, allows them to drive to the their own 20 yard line (70 yard drive) and kick a field goal will have a "bendability" (awful name, by the way) stat of 23.333.

But a defense whose offense leaves them in awful field position, say a fumble on their own 30 yard line, allows a 10 yard drive, doesn't allow a TD and forces the FG, has a "bendability" stat of 3.333.

So the fact that the Cowboys defense leads the league in this stat just means that they're benefiting from awesome field position.

I was trying to be kind. I forgot the little sarcasm guy with the rolling eyes after I said take his word for it.

I do believe the more plays it takes for the opposing team to score the greater the chance of something going wrong for them is. Of course I would prefer 3 and out or a turnover every time, but you know that's not going to happen. Particularly with our defense.

I just want to see a complete game this weekend (coaching, offense, defense, special teams) and go from there.
