Yeah, but they're not doing anything stupid either

i know that there's a lot of angst and frustration going around because the Cowboys haven't been active in the early part of free agency. It was a disappointing year and I can see where people would be hungry for change. In many ways, I am too.

But, on the bright side, while the Cowboys "aren't doing anything!", they aren't doing anything STUPID either.

They're not grossly overpaying a good linebacker like Hitchens $9 million a year.

They're not grossly overpaying a career underachiever like Sammy Watkins $16 million a year either.

And they weren't the team that went out and gave a mediocre receiver like Paul Richardson $20 million guaranteed.

So, while I can understand folks being a bit antsy, maybe we should be thankful that the team isn't making reckless moves just for the sake of making them?

I know I am.

I wanted all those guys....I had no idea they would get those contracts.

And then to hear that they wanted Watkins...there was a time Jerry would've made sure he got the guy he wanted. I'm thankful they didn't do that. It sucks we aren't getting some top tier free agents in here.....but I don't think I want part of any of these top tier free agents if this is the going rate for them.

We've been active. Some fans around here think the grass is always greener. We just made it possible to keep one of the best pass rushers and fans are whining every time another team over pays for a player.
Lawrence may have been the most important signing we could make.

Great point! I'm not going to fault them for not throwing huge contracts at average players like some teams. I would like to see a decent vet or two once free agency calms down a bit.
I'm in "wait and see" mode.

I am fine with it so far too. Restructure Fred, Sign Martin, sign one significant F.A., then go into the draft with 10 picks and next year the cap looks beautiful.

Doing nothing can also mean to do something stupid.....

The best perspective to have in my opinion.

Nobody wants another Nolan Carroll, but I wouldn't want to see $16 million a year for Sammy Watkins either!

:hammer:

I'm just amazed teams find ways to pay players, we hand out so much money to our own guys that we can't even fill out the roster

I think its the gift and the curse of drafting well and developing them. Hitting on those 3 linemen was gonna cost you eventually and no one can justify getting rid of either one of them. If you take away those 3 linemen.....our salary situation is fine.

I have zero problem with the team sitting out the first few days of free agency. We have little-to-no cap room and these contract numbers are crazy high.

My issue will be if we sit out free agency all together or sign bottom-of-the-roster guys to million dollar deals again.

We have to sign Martin so like we’ve been doing for a number of years we’re banking everything on the draft. Signing mid to low tier free agents certainly hasn’t helped us so the only way we’re going to improve our talent is through the draft.
