I've always had a love / hate relationship with Malmsteen.

Technically masterful and he can reproduce a myriad of spectacular things, but his music just lacks soul to me. He is a guitarist attempting to reproduce some of the best classical contemporaries except on guitar, but coming off robotic musically, as it has no life or true heart. Just 100% flash, but dead inside.

That comes off a bit harsh, but it's the only way I can describe it.

The funny thing is, when I play it's the same for me except I'm not even remotely as skilled as he is. My playing (most of the time) just sounds off timing and groove wise. It's an issue I've never been able to overcome. Neither has Malmsteen.

Technically he's brilliant, probably the best vibrato I've ever heard. I first heard him with Alcatraz then bought Rising Force when it came out. Mind was blown, somewhat similar to when I heard Van Halen's first album in 78. Still prefer Edwards playing by far though

Odyssey is probably the best commercial success with Joe Lynn Turner on Vocals.

Excellent keyboardist/piano in the band Jens Johansson. The guitar play and keyboards having some great interactions.

Somewhere I still have a Korean Copy of Rising Force and Marching out I bought when I was stationed there. Just had a lot of korean writing on the sleeve.
