who do you resign or extend next year?

Who do you cut?

Gurode, Columbo, JJ, Rivera, Newman, Al?

Of Course, Romo is a no brainer.

Gurode, Columbo, Newman, and if we get to the NFC championship game or better, I redo Romo.

Gurode definitely gets 5 year deal at starter money; Colombo also gets a good deal with some incentives built in. Newman is a no brainer. JJ will be in 3rd year of his contract and comes back but don't see us giving him an extension until we see what he does in preseason & 07 season--we should bring in legit RB to challenge him who would better contribute to our twosome of ??&MBIII.

We'll see how well Romo does rest of this year including playoffs but play of OL could hinder him. He able move around to get time against Falcons and lot of other teams most of whom aren't playoff caliber. Can he get enough time against the good teams to do the job? Not his fault if OL fails so badly he doesn't get chance to work his magic. So we'll see how well he can escape Philly blitz onslaught. But I'm thinking Romo will definitely be given a starter contract before regular season starts in 07, but for how long & how much of a bonus?

Al Johnson is gone.

Unsure about Singleton. He's now a solid backup OLB but not the playmaking pass rusher we must have opposite Ware. Hopefully the return of a healthy Ellis and improved play by Carpenter improves that position but we unable with pressure from that side even when Ellis was there. It will all come down to numbers and whether Singleton would accept good backup money (2-year contract?) to end his NFL career in Dallas. Our starters are Ware/Ayodale/James with Ellis/Carpenter opposite Ware & Burnett is a good backup/possible starter. That's 6 locked in LB positions with maybe 3 remaining to be filled unless I left somebody beside Singleton out.

I really don't see how Ellis comes back to preinjury form with his achilles injury. I will be surprised if he is on the team next year. I think his career could be over. That said I think Singleton is back for depth.

Columbo, Gurode get new contracts and so does Newman, but I don't about the timing of Newman.
