CFZ You are the GM. If you replace Dak next year, who is the improvement?

Im trying to go up and get CJ stroud or Bryce Young

Status quo isnt good enough

We shouldve just drafted Fields like i said we should last year

No and no. Stroud is an Ohio state qb and their lineage shows that it’s a system bs team and their qbs aren’t intelligent.

Young is a midget.

Well, we just witnessed Tampa and LA win Super Bowls signing older veteran QBs. How about Aaron Rodgers? I bet GB would trade him for a few first round picks. Not only does that give us a better QB, it also takes him out of our way. You put Rodgers in this offense with this defense........ instant NFC favorites.[/QUOTE}

Green Bay just got to watch radio throw pic after pic and meltdown in the crunch time. You think they would trade for him????????? Lol

Draft his replacement

I don't trust Jerry and company to draft a QB. Just remember the year they drafted Dak. They tried trading up in the first round for Paxton Lynch (out of the league), then the Raiders saved them by trading ahead of them to get Connor Cook (out of the league), and finally Dak fell into their laps at the end of the 4th round. Plus we will be drafting way too far down to be within reach of a franchise type QB.

Signing another expensive QB in free agency won't happen because getting rid of Dak next year would create $89 million in dead cap space.

If you get to offload the contract & get compensation back, you take the deal & worry about finding the long term replacement later. It's not easy, and that may be why you phrased the question the way you did, but the first step is getting the freedom to be in the market. You don't have to marry anyone immediately.

So suppose for a second Big Mac went ‘LA Rams’ on Dak and shocked the world by trading his franchise QB because he knew the person he was getting was far better? And remember, the goal is next year to win it all.

Are there any Staffords left? Borderline elite QBs with cap friendly contracts? All quarterbacks signed after Dak are going to seriously hurt any team that trade them away no matter what we offered them. Teams don’t just give away franchise quarterbacks.

Biggest name free agent is probably Lamar Jackson? Would you give him the giant contract the Ravens won’t…. And can the team even afford it?

Cooper’s days are at an end if this is how our defense plays now. Frustrating that last year at the halfway point the NFL figured out our top 3 offense, this year it’s the top 3 defense.

You can spend a top draft pick but now you’re going to have to wait for development. Better make sure there is another solid running back too, because Zeke won’t be around with that salary.

And if you’re feeling like a gambler, are you going to see if you’re the next team to find a Geno Smith? Who is that next guy who rises from the bench into stardom?
How about Rodgers? Carr could be available.

It’s expected to be a very rich QB draft next year. Perhaps draft the heir apparent.

Draft. I don’t see the point of being one and done in the playoffs anymore. That’s what we’ve been for how many years now?

Of course it’s the Jones drafting so whatever. It’s just mental gymnastics at this point.

Can't wait to see if we could get a qb to come in and have the success that he couldn't. What a huge blow that would be to the homers

strykers,

I don't think GB would necessarily trade for Dak but another team might. I know the world isn't perfect. But you saw what Denver gave up for Russel Wilson who is a shorter version of Dak and older. I can see a team like Carolina or Atlanta trading for Dak as he would be an upgrade for them. IMO, we are a DT and Aaron Rodgers away from being true title contenders.

I can't see any scenario where Prescott is traded so people should probably just give up on that.

Even if there were a couple teams interested in him and that contract, I doubt the Jones' would do it. And unless you have a clear cut starter READY to take the reigns from day one, letting him go is pretty foolish anyway. The team has too much talent to make some wild gamble on the QB and then watch a 5-12 disaster because the offense can't score or move the ball any.

The right thing to do is look to the draft, or perhaps look at other teams young backup/s that have some talent that might be stuck behind a proven or emerging starter. Cooper Rush has done an admirable job as a backup but he has major limitations and if he had to play 17 games, he'd be royally exposed. He is what he is, a guy who can be a stop-gap for a few games at a time.

We couldn't trade him with that contract even if we attached a # 1 pick to the deal.
The only place that Dak is a top 10 QB is in the Cowboy Homer world.
27 years oh heck make it an even 30 and will see how it goes at this rate.

Rodgers has a rating under 100 and a QBR in the 30s.

He’s a shrine of what he use to be and I’m not sure he’s a significant upgrade at this point. Would be an awful, awful trade IMO.

You interview FA QBs and see which ones will follow the game plan. I would take a Taylor Heineke that can play team football he has his warts but you try and limit his opportunities to go "Rogue"

I get it on Wilson but Wilson has a track record of being able to throw accurate forward passes. He has shown the leadership to get into his teams backside when needed and not walk around like a Jason Garrett dummy. He has a ring and he’s been competitive in several years during his career.

Now is Wilson what he uses to be, no. But he’s 10 miles ahead of radio in the grand scheme of things and likely will succeed again.

I don't disagree. But Dak is a top 12-15 QB and that would be a huge improvement for Atlanta and Carolina. In a world where a 33 year old Russel Wilson is worth 5 picks and a mega contract , including 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks, Dak has value. Russel Wilson isn't as good as Dak. His cheap rookie contract allowed Seattle to load up the defense and he did enough on offense to make Seattle contenders for a few years, but as soon as Seattle had to give him a big contract that gutted the rest of the team, that house of cards fell...........and Denver fell for it. Someone would fall for Dak.

Any QB we draft will not be ready. Any FA QB available next year better than Jimmy G? The point would be with the extra cap we can fix some other positions with this team. Now whether the Jones do that is another question but we would have the cap to address it.
With extra cap? We had 20M on the cap this year and stood path

It's a common argument.

So will an extra 15M on the cap fix the cowboys woes. That's the extra cap room we gain give or take a couple of mill. Unless we go bottom of the barrel QB.

People are delusional.

Can't trade Dak. But his contract is coming up so what should the team do? Well they've shown they can win with a backup going 5-1 dating back to last season with a guy they didn't even want as a backup this year. If the guy making 10% of your salary cap can not make up for the lack of talent needed to win tough games then you've overpaid. So if dak isn't that much better than guys like Cooper, why not draft and or find a similar guy to cooper maybe with more athleticism and use the savings to add more speed to the offense and better DT to the defense. I don't know who all is a free agent but is there a geno smith type sitting as a backup somewhere? I bet you can find something if you looked.

There isn't a better replacement.

The people who are saying draft forget how hard it is to draft a QB who can even be as good as Prescott.

People are just angry.

You bring in some young guys who you think have potential. And you keep Dak until one of them unseats him.
