Zoners:

J. J. Watt OR Tyron Smith

I am curious, was I the only one who really wanted JJ over Tyron?

It is early in both of their careers.

BUT,

JJ is a beast! :bang2:

To early to say. Both have very high ceilings and both played reasonably well as rookies.

I'll answer this question for you in 4 years.

We already the best pass rusher in the league who's still in his prime. We had Doug Free at LT. Take a guess.

I know Watt is the better player NOW but he's also 2 yrs. older if I'm not mistaken: Tyron is still a PUP crazycowboy, and he's gonna be special. AS risen star said, you can't pass on a prospect like him: I KNOW he looked awkward at times vs. JPP but sadly: JPP is the next DeMarcus WAre IMO. The kid is the 2nd best def. end in football: watch how much better Smith plays this week vs. the seahags. Plus, young O.linemen take longer to develop: you know that.

I knew you guys would set me straight.

Tyron is doing us great......I cannot complain.

He is about the only player who can get me over passing on Watt.

I cannot believe how good he plays DE

I agree in regards to Tyron vs Watt, although it would be awesome to have both. :)

I don't agree that JPP is the next Ware. I think Ware is a once in a decade player that is hard to rival in terms of production. For some reason I don't think JPP has the temperament or maturity that Ware does that makes him such a great and consistent player. I think JPP is the type of player that will allow success to easily go to his head, especially in a locker room like the Giants'.

There will never be another DeMarcus Ware. Stop it. He's the greatest pass rusher of all time. JPP is good, but is he Ware good? Hell no.

I'd take Smith because he has more upside and plays the more valuable position at LT versus DE in a 3-4.

Watt is great and I hoped we could get him in a trade-down to the mid-teens and pick up an additional second rounder. I hoped we could grab a RT in the second and keep Free at LT. Shows what I know.:

I don't think either of those picks were wrong in the spot but I'm not disappointed in the guy we got.

Erm, no. Last decade sure, but it's too early to say all time.

Not really. Statistically he's the best. Who's better?
What statistic is that? He's not even in the top 20 all time in sacks.

Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Lawrence Taylor...

I'm not saying Ware can't be, but he's not there yet.

He was the second fastest ever to get to 100 sacks behind only Reggie White and of course he's not top 20 yet he's barely 30 years old.

Ok, so that would make him 2nd best ever.

Jared Allen is the same age and has a few more sacks, which would make DeMarcus 2nd best.

Allen has played one more season than Ware

I know, but I was responding to the "he's only 30" comment.

I've said this before. Tyron IMO in two years at the age of 23-24 will be the best OT in the game. The new breed athletic freak.

Watt is awesome and I'm jealous on that one. I'm glad we got one of the two is all I can say.

Smith will be a better tackle than Watt will be a 34 DE when all is said and done.

Anyway, Watt wouldn't have enough of an impact as a 34 end to even begin to justify not having one of the best young tackles in the game. If we were talking a pass rushing OLB, then maybe you could justify it... but 34 DE's just don't impact the game enough.
