I would be very much in favor in bringing Billy Cundiff back. I know that he cost us last season, but let's be fair. He tore a hamstring in training camp, and then came back (as you would expect) really rusty. Why no one remembers that he was a pretty darned good kicker for us the few years before last season, I don't understand. I didn't get the reason for cutting him last year, other than frustration, and I don't get why we wouldn't bring him in now.

Suisham, while an outstanding kickoff man, is not a good field-goal kicker at all. And Vanderjagt, well, everyone knows about Vanderjagt. Cundiff was pretty good at kicking off (consistently inside the five), and was a 78% field-goal kicker. I remember articles by Spagnola mentioning that Billy didn't have to improve much to meet Parcells' 80% standard for kickers. And then, the injury in training camp happened & the rest is history.

I know that Cundiff lost the competition in Green Bay. But you never know what's involved in that. All I know is what I've seen. And from what I've seen, for three years or so, was that Billy Cundiff was a pretty good kicker for us. I mean, remember the overtime Giants game in Parcells' first year? He tied a record with 5 or 6 field-goals that night, including one really clutch kick from about 55+ yards to send us to overtime (where we eventually won).

I don't know. I have absolutely no good feelings about Vandejagt at all. None. And I didn't even when we signed him. Regardless his records, he was my very last choice for a free agent kicker. And now, we're reaping what we sewed; losing a player or two with some potential (Pettiti, "Pepper" Johnson) and still have no answer at kicker.

The fact that it costs us someone else's valuable spot on gameday, as well, frustrates me to no end. It's either that we choose a guy who gives us the best field-position, but can't reliably put 3 points on the board --or-- we select a guy who might have a better chance at the 3 points, but can't kick off past the 12. It seriously svcks.

And so, my solution?

We bring back the guy that everyone... in my mind, prematurely... ran off, is still available, is familiar with the Dallas scene and HAS been a pretty good kicker for us until an injury derailed a single season.

Parcells acted too quickly dismissing Billy Cundiff. It was rash. So was signing Vanderjagt.

Both of those mistakes could be rectified now, with one fell swoop...

I'm don't think there's much dropoff from Cundiff to Suisham. Keep in mind he's a 75% career field goal kicker in a freaking dome! It's Vandy or bust. :banghead:

If we could bring Hoffman back this idea would only sound half crazy.

I actually agree with you. I had high hopes for Cundiff.

It'd be better than the current situation of Vanderjerk.

You mention rash and you want to dump the most accurate in NFL history after week 1 when he has a pulled groin and bring back a scrub kicker? Now that is rash.

Hoffman will not be back with Dallas as long as BP is the coach.

I emailed Hoffman a few times and we talked about the situation before he got hired by Atlanta. Him and BP did not get along and Hoffman said "I will not be back as long as THAT PERSON is there."

They do not like each other.

It's either gonna be Squeeze 'em or Vandy this year... I don't see any other kicker coming in.

With that said, I hope they look to draft a kicker. I'm pulling for Mason Crosby.
