What are they?

I know this will tick off KJJ, but I'll reserve my opinion so I don't influence others' opinions. I will say, though, I've been high on this guy and I've been low. His career has been one of the most inconsistent of any Cowboy player.

Looks like he's back to being a pretty decent RT. I think he get's that team option next year.

Mechanics, Mechanics & Mechanics. When he plays with good technique, he can be pretty good, one he does not it is painful!

He is not the kind of athlete, that can get away with bad technique.

Let's hope muscle memory has kicked in and he does not get lazy, this is why I hope Parnell gets healthy just to scare him a little.

I'll be very happy if he's healthy and 'adequate' all season. It's looking like he will be, but that's a cat that can flip on you at any point. He's a hard player to judge for the long-term.

Last year he was a 50-something rated tackle per PFF.

If he was in the 30's this year I would be ecstatic.

Just don't get our boy Romo killed. Give him just one second longer than you gave him last year. One second more. That's all I ask.

Not much!

I think we're still going to need to help him out. Ultimately you would like two tackles who could hold the edge without help from the tight end. Which allows the tight end or extra wide receiver to be implemented in passing routes. Which opens up the offense. If Smith and Free can't hold the edge without Witten... they don't help us.

He was a really good RT in 2009. Since then he got paid, he switched to LT then back to RT and pretty much sucked. He also lost $ with his restructured deal. If that hasn't humbled him then nothing will and we can write him off. However, This is his last chance and at least right now from all reports he's fixed his approach and mechanics and has played pretty well. I dunno if he will be as good as he was in 2009 ever again, but I believe he will be a competent RT.

Let's see if the technique changes they made stand the test of time. It's easier to maintain it now with the time they have to work on these details in training camp. I want to see it in Weeks 12, 13, 14, 15, etc.

Would be nice if he did, wouldn't it?

Adequate, solid and dependable are all good words. If he could stay healthy and not get Romo killed that would be a good thing also.

He does fairly well with the outside rush although I don't like his not sustaining some of those blocks. Where are all the Free sucks crowd?

That's not why you reserve your opinion you want to get a consensus first I already know how you tick. :) My feeling about Free is we'll find out where he is when the regular season starts. Can't come to any conclusions after 2 preseason games. I commented during the offseason that all the criticism Free has received along with having to take a big pay cut may motivate him. You're asking questions about Frederick and Free that will be answered in the regular season.

It's when the real bullets start flying that you find out where players are. We do know that Free is capable of playing much better than we've seen the past 2 seasons. I feel pretty confident he'll be better than what we saw last season but not sure it will be good enough for him to be the long-term answer at the position.
