In the same vein, but maybe a bit more obscure.

"Well, do you ever get the feeling
That the story's too damn real
And in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage
And it seems like you're the only
Person sitting in the audience?"
Fantastic Tull song. Probably one of their more melodic tunes, though they have a lot of songs I like even more. If you've never heard "Broadsword", give it a listen.

Always been a huge Tull fan. Saw the Broadsword and the Beast tour in Montreal back in the day. Anderson is right up there with the best front men ever imo.

Heres another of the many favorite lyrics I relate to.

"So the old rocker gets out his bike
To make a ton before he takes his leave
Up on the A1 by Scotch Corner
Just like it used to be
And as he flies, tears in his eyes
His wind-whipped words echo the final take
And he hits the trunk road doing around a hundred and twenty
With no room left to brake
And he was too old to rock and roll
And he was too young to die"

Thanks! I could never understand the lyrics in lines 1&2, and never thought to look them up when the opportunity arose.

Being a biker who has enjoyed taking a ton (triple digits on the speedo) a time or two I feel those lines. Another song that hits harder as the years go by.
Why is a ton triple digits? Does "ton" mean something different in England?

Not sure how the reference came to be. It's been a thing as long as I remember. "That thing hit a ton in the quarter?", I think it goes back to the days when hitting that speed was much more of a milestone than it is now.

My w.a.g is it is an analogy comparing heavy weights, and it has three letters. Someone coined it and it stuck.

Once there was a time I was hungry
And I'd find my food rotting in some bin
But I'd never, never sell my guitar
Cause that would, lordy, that would be a sin

Hank Williams:

"I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive"

Now you're lookin' at a man that's gettin' kind-a mad
I had lot's of luck but it's all been bad
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive

My fishin' pole's broke the creek is full of sand
My woman run away with another man
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive

A distant uncle passed away and left me quite a batch
And I was livin'g high until that fatal day
A lawyer proved I wasn't born
I was only hatched

Ev'rything's again' me and it's got me down
If I jumped in the river I would prob'ly drown
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive

These shabby shoes I'm wearin' all the time
Are full of holes and nails
And brother if I stepped on a worn out dime
I bet a nickel I could tell you if it was heads or tails

I'm not gonna worry wrinkles in my brow
'Cause nothin's ever gonna be alright nohow
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive

I could buy a Sunday suit and it would leave me broke
If it had two pair of pants I would burn the coat
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive

If it was rainin' gold I wouldn't stand a chance
I wouldn't have a pocket in my patched up pants
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive

Well, I woke up Sunday mornin'
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad
So I had one more for dessert
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt

Johnny Cash- Sunday morning coming down.

This is my favorite version of this Kris Kristofferson song. He looks like he feels ever word he is singing. Check him out at 3:25. His reaction to a compliment seems one of pure joy and belonging. He ended up taking his own life.
