I agree. Failing a known test is a sign of future problems. I'd just point out that very intelligent people have struggled with addiction. If you fail because you couldn't understand the process or ramifications, you're not too bright. If you fail depsite that, you need help.

actually think most people view it the way you say, which in essence is, if you fail a drug test, it means football is not a high enough priority in your life, which makes you an undesirable prospect to me.

weed stays in the body longer than any other drug, it stays in fat cells, so depending on the
body, it might take months or at least one month for them to not test positive.
you cant quit a week or 2 before a test and pass.

It has nothing to do with what he smokes, but rather, his intelligence, discipline and self control.

To be put into the drug program in the NFL, you have to be a moron. All NFL drug tests for the players not in the program take place at the same time every year. They call it the idiot test for a reason - you can smoke to your hearts content for 11 months, and just have to get off it for one month to pass your one test, then go back to smoking.

If you fail and enter the program, it immediately calls into question the intelligence of the player. Or, whether the person has a drug problem that they can't control.

Most of the people arguing against weed in the NFL probably smoked it themselves in college.

The NFL needs to stop banning a drug that has no performance enhancing effects and is legal in many states (and is hard to prove that one took illegally). I don't do weed, never have, maybe never will, but it's dumb that players can basically have their careers ruined over this stuff.

I swear this world has become pathetic. People break the law, break rules, get in trouble and it's not the fault of the person it's the systems fault for having that rule or law in place.

Myself I did smoke weed for many years and while all the arguments about weed not being a big deal it is a big deal when anything can cause you to sacrifice more important things. I have mentioned before I work at the county we are subjected to drug testing and alcohol. Once my name was put on the list to be randomly tested I had to make a choice what was important in my life and what wasn't. My pay is no where near the NFL minimum pay but the choice was easy to make. My job and all it afforded me to be able to do was much more important than getting high. These players are also faced with this question, this is no longer college this now is their job and this job requires drug testing so the choice is there for them to make.

Again, you assume and hence make a mistake. The NFL does what the CBA allows. You want them to randomly test all players, get the NFLPA to agree to it. Currently, they do not.
