sadsadsad day!
I had breakfast with him one time, back on Aug 4th, 1978. Was very early in the morning, in dowtown Dallas. I was about to get sworn in to the Navy later that day, and ship out to boot camp. me and a bunch of other recruits were eating breakfast, when this old Black guy came up to me and the guys at our table, asking " you got a quarter for a cup of Coffee, you got a quarter for a cup of coffee?". Well my immediate reaction was tense, since I wasn't used to big Cities and the Bum's all over the place, and I was trying not to make eye contact with this guy. (the part of town we were in was not good at the time, and I was an ignorant country boy, so give me a break as times were different then)
I did look to the door, and said "son-of-a-beeoooch, it's Billy Jo Dupree"!!! Then I looked back and recognized who was trying to bum a quarter from me. "Crazy Ray! Sit down man!"
They were there, sent by the Dallas Cowboys, to greet all the Military guys shipping out. now me being a diehard fan of Da Boys, this was a treat. Didn't talk much to Billy, since he went to another table, but Crazy Ray sat with us and cut jokes, disapearring coins, and balloon gags.
Was a memorable day for me, going to miss him.
Need to put him in the "Ring of Honor" I tell ya!!!!!
