Im well aware that the lockout is still in place and no one can be signed, but that doesnt mean we cant talk about it.

Offensive Line- I believe Kosier will be resigned and Davis will be a cap cut so we will sign a starting OG in free agency. 1 of the following would be the direction I would look in. Davin Joseph, Chris Chester or Justin Blalock. All are under 30 and already proven NFL starting OG's. Holland remains the backup along with Arkin.

Both Barron and Colombo would be let go so we would need a versatile OT to go along with Young. I would look at Ryan O'Callaghan or Charlie Johnson.

Defensive Line- I would resign Bowen and let Spears and Hatcher walk. I would then look to sign a NT and play Ratliff at DE on short yardage/running downs. NT's I would look to sign would be Alan Branch or Ronald Fields. Both are big bodies to fill the gaps and stuff the run. Brent continues to spell at NT while Rat, Igor and Bowen cycle at DE for the most part.

Linebacker- 1 player is needed here with Brooking hopefully not making the team. I would go with a vet with 3-4 ILB experience who can stop the run since that wont be either Lee's or Carter's forte. I would look at Kevin Bentley or Eric Barton.

Secondary- Corner is fine with Newman, Jenkins, Skandrick and Josh Thomas.
Safety....clearly the biggest need on this team. I doubt 2 new starters will be signed so Sensabaugh comes back to play SS. FS Michael Huff is the obvious sign and I really think he will be signed. Ball will be back to backup along with AOA.

So my ideal FA signings would be as follows:
Justin Blalock
Ryan O'Callaghan
Alan Branch
Kevin Bentley
Micheal Huff

If we can get these players while retaining Bowen, Kosier, Free, and Sensabaugh I think we are right in contention with the rest of the rest of the NFC East and anything can happen in the playoffs.

Hmmm

Outside of resigning a few of our guys (Kosier, Sensabaugh and possibly Spears), I'd probably only add Huff and Robert Gallery (if cheap).

Schefter keeps putting us in the Nnamdi sweepstakes. And hinting hes doing so more-so b/c we are on Nnamdi's list than the other way around

Anyone know how Gallery played when switched to G?

3 former Raiders in 1 off-season is simply too many

give me huff and nnamdi and call it a day

I know, easier said than done..

Resign Free, Bowen and Kosier.

Sign Huff, Blalock, Kirk Morrison and Abram Elam.

Fixes our OL - Free/Kosier/Gurode/Blalock/Smith
Fixes our sedondary - Elam and Huff -both know Ryan's system and with the off season being short, we need coaches on the field

Give us ILB depth and he also knows Ryan's system

Cut Davis and Barber

I don't see Dallas getting 4 or 5 FA. I think more times than not teams over pay in the FA market. I do think the Cowboys will bring in 1 or 2 FA and hopefully 1 is Huff.

Blalock
Huff
Whitner (for two year contract)
Nnamdi
Spears

Getting worried about Huff with the conflicting reports on his FA status. Anybody have the FACTs on his availability?

If no Huff or Weddle, Hamlin might be the best FS available this year. :(

Kosier, Spears, Sensabaugh, Bowen, Aso, Huff

Then the team has no holes in it's starting lineup or is just as good as anyone in the league IMO.

Going by what Stephen and Jerry have been saying and trying to translate, I believe we need an OG, a DE, a CB and two S. Now the question is can we afford to sign 5 FA plus a few of our own.

Seems like we will resign Free, Kosier, Bowen and possibly Sensabaugh (only a maybe on him).

I could easily see trading or cutting the following: Newman, Davis, Colombo, Barron, Bennett, Barber, Choice and R. Williams. Cutting someone like R. Williams means we will be playing under the 2010 rules of no salary cap.

On offensive, I will not be surprised to see us attempt to sign Davin Joseph or Robert Gallery (think he goes to Seattle though). Signing either shores up the O-Line for a long time. Now if we can't resign Free then we need to go after Gaither at LT/RT. He is unrestricted and if under the 2010 rules Free signing with another team gets us a #1 in 2012. Personally I think Free is back.

On defense, I would go after Cullen Jenkins as the 5 technique guy on the D-Line and resign Bowen and Hatcher (believe both will come at a reasonable price and if under the 2010 rules would be a bargain because of tenders).

At LB, unless we cut Brookings, I don't see anything happening there but if Brooking is cut then Posluszny from Buffalo is an option. Jarvis Moss is a FA option at OLB and would be cheap.

At CB, I really do see us making a move to get much younger and expect Dallas to try and sign either Jonathan Joseph or Eric Wright. Would like to have Asomugha but just don't see it happening.

At S, if we keep Sensabaugh then we only sign one but I believe we will sign Huff at FS and wouldn't be surprised to see us sign Whitner at SS. Whitner might come a bit less than Sensabaugh because he is willing to show people what he can do especially after getting out of Buffalo.

Much will probably be determined today (May 5th) when the 8th Circuit rules on the permanent stay. If they rule for the players then there is a very good chance we play 2011 under the 2010 rules and that changes many things. Personally if the court rules for the players, I have to imagine the owners will institute rules that are from already agreed to items in a new CBA, i.e. rookie cap and not agreed to items like salary cap going with the 2010 rules. The owners in no way want to give the rookies even more than last year in signing bonuses.

Anyway, I see the FA signings being either 3 or 5 depending on the courts.

My list as follows: first re-sign Bowen, Free. 2nd, sign Nnamdi CB, Weedle FS, Joseph OG, and Aaron Smith DL when the Steelers release him.

I don't rule out two former Cowboys returning to the fold.

Neither is a flashy name but I think both will fill a need and both played for Ryan last year in Cleveland.

Safety Abram Elam and Defensive End Kenyon Coleman.

These players aren't big names but more stop-gaps who are experienced in Rob Ryan's defensive schemes. In addition to filling needs, they can act as coaches on the field during games and practices and help other players to pick up the defensive faster.

You can't sign superstars at every need but I think these two make dollars and sense.

I would want to take a close look at Eric Wright and Huff perosnally and I would like to resign Free, Sensy, Spears and Bowen.

Personally, I want to resign Spears and Bowen and call it a day on the DL. That would give us 6 DL, which is where we want to be. Nothing out there any better than those two guys. Let Hatcher walk.

Top to bottom:

QB - I could see us signing somebody here. It's not what I would call likely but possible that if a guy like Moore became available, we might think about signing him and letting Kitna go. I think we might go after an UDFA QB at some point but I don't know. Depends on what the team thinks of McGee's progress. Personally, I think he's doing fine and would like to keep him but we'll see. As I said before, I don't expect much will happen here.

RB - I think we might see something here. Miller has not gotten much chance to show what he has. To be honest, I'm not sure what the team thinks about this player. I can see Barbar and Choice traded or cut. It's possible that we look for somebody, depending on who's out there but I don't think it would be a big ticket signing.

FB - Gronk or Chapas? I think it's not as cut and dried as many think. Gronk, IMO, had a good rookie season. Obviously, the missed assignment on the Blitz Pickup is not a highlight but he's a smart kid with interesting skills and I would not just count him out. I don't think we carry two FBs so the loser may go home here but I can also see a possability where Gronk is moved to TE and competes for the 3rd spot there. I guess we'll see but I don't see anybody getting signed here.

WR - I see changes here because it's crowded but don't see us signing anybody. I think Miles, Dez and Roy are all still here. I think you got I think you got Tree, Hurd, Bergeron, Holley, Manuel Johnson, Teddy Williams, Jeff Moturi and Dwayne Harris all fighting for 3 spots.

TE - I think it's high time to see something out of Bennett. Witten is here and I expect to see Phillips come back and have a spot. The question here is how well does Phillips come back? I could easily see him being the 2nd TE with Bennett being moved and either a developmental guy or Rucker sticking. Bennett needs to start coming around or we need to get rid of that contract.

OL - Free and Gurode are there. I think the team would like to keep Kosier and I think that's probably a good idea but a lot depends on how healthy he is and how healthy he can stay. Kosier hasn't played an entire season for a long time now. If he comes back, I don't think we can afford to bring him back at an inflated salary. The question is, what will other teams offer him? Bigg is a guy that I think needs to be moved. I hate to say this because I am a big Horns fan but I honestly think that we may be moving towards a different OL philosophy. I think we might be trying to get more mobile and Bigg may not fit here. He certainly has not helped him self by his play this past year. Colombo is a question. If he can be healthy enough, then I think we bring him back because unlike almost everybody here, I don't think Smith is a day one starter. I think he needs time to get ready for the NFL game and if Colombo could be here to play, I think that's the best option. Would save us from having to go out and sign a guy. Basically, I think we have to sign a Guard and I think it's a high priority. I would like us to make Davin Joseph that guy but there are obviously other options out there. So, that leaves us with Costa, Holland, Manny Ramirez, Travis Bright, Barron, Brewster, Jeremy Parnell, Sam Young and Smith, Arkin and Nagy respectively. We must resign Free. That is the biggest priority we have. I see Free, Kosier, Gurode Smith Arkin Young, Costa as locks. I see Bigg or Colombo making it but probably not both and maybe neither. I see a possability of Ramirez, Holland or Nagy sticking.

DL - I think we probably resign Spears and possibly either Bowen or Hatcher. I'd be surprised if we resigned all of them. I think Olshansky is probably gone. I don't know what we have in Lissemore, Daniels, Saddler McQueen or Clifton Gaethers but I think two of those guys end up being in the rotation and maybe we keep one to develop. I would not be surprised if all we did here was sign our own folks.

LB - I thought that we might see a guy taken in the draft at OLB but we didn't. Because of that, I don't see us doing much here. We have Ware, Brady and Spencer all in place. I think Lee probably wins out over Brookings and maybe we cut Brookings or maybe we restructure, I don't know. I doubt that anybody give Spencer any comp at SOLB or Brady on the inside. That leaves Balogun, Butler, Cummings, Greenhouse, Brandon Williams and Leon Williams and Bruce Carter. Carter is on the roster but there are a lot of LBs here for not a lot of spots.

DBs - Jenkins, Scandrick, are locks. I don't know what happens with Newman. We could see a player signed here but the question becomes one of cap. It's going to cost a lot to keep Newman but it's going to take a lot to replace him too so there will be significant cost associated with a signing like that. Lots of talk about Asomugha but I don't know that this happens. It would take a hole lot to sign him and I just don't know that it would be more valuable for us to do that as opposed to keeping Newman or looking elsewhere. I think McCann makes this team easily. You have Ball, Ross Weaver and Josh Thomas. I could see us maybe looking at a guy like John Joseph in Cincy or Brandon Carr from KC. Even these guys won't be cheap and we could easily find ourselves in a situation were Newman's contract looks like a bargain. If somebody doesn't step up on the roster, we may not sign a big name guy here.

Safety - I think we have to see something here. If Ball is going to make this team, it's at CB cause it will not be at Safety. I think we have to resign Sensy and probably go out and sign another Safety to match with him. I do believe that Sensabaughs play can improve measurably if we can simply get him decent help at Safety. I think Huff is probably the natural FA option but there are others. Sean Considine or Sabby Piscatelli are players that we might be able to look at. The advantage of resigning Sensy is that he can play either Safety position. The other players on the roster are Barry Church, Danny McCray, Andrew Sendejo and AOA. I think AOA is probably key here because we don't know where he's at. If he's what we think he can be, we might be able to consider him as a starter but I doubt that we will be able to. I think we have to sign somebody here.

Kicker/Punter - I think we're solid at Punter with McBriar. No real revelation there I suppose. Kicker is a different story. I think we might have to sign somebody there. We can't have a kicker that can't make short FGs. I mean, that just aint gonna fly. I could see us bringing in a guy to fix that problem. Would also allow us to stop carrying two FG kickers on the roster. Buehler needs to get accurate real quick or he needs to be gone. I think it's as simple as that.

So, that's kinda what I see.
