Your overall impressions of this team so far before playing Philly?

What has looked good

What has looked bad

Where can we improve

Will our offense come out swinging, or will it be our defense?

Will there be less penalties this season??
I guess you haven’t been watching but just to let you know, we haven’t seen this team play yet.

Think we need to see the team play a couple of games to get a sense of their identity; and what their strengths and weaknesses are.

Loved what we did in the off season....thought it would translate to a new direction for the franchise. Sadly....that's been all washed away with the poor pre-season. It's still the same status quo of poor practice habits....the undisciplined play....the country club atmosphere that he players totally take advantage of. If I was Schotty last night I literally would have kicked Micah to the locker room for that crap stunt he pulled. It just goes to show the coaching staff has ZERO authority when it comes to policing the players.

The OP poses an excellent question, because we have not seen the starters yet at all.

I think the offense will be a lot better. The offensive line appears stronger, Pickens is a huge upgrade, and Dak, Lamb, and Ferguson are healthy again. Keeping them that way is vital. And the way Dallas protected Javonte Williams all preseason tells me he might be back to the form he was in when Denver drafted him.

Defensively we know two things- this team can rush the passer and has great linebackers. The big concern, again, is stopping the run. The secondary actually should be okay until Diggs/Revel return thanks to Kaiir Elam looking like a steal and with Bland back 100 percent.

All things taken, even with the tougher schedule, I see no reason this team can't flip 7-10 to 10-7 and be in the wild card hunt.

Over the years, I have heard/read many coaches say the first regular-season game of the year scares them more than any others. They know how their team should perform from all the offseason work BUT live bullets are the only true test. This is why I'm NOT rubber-stamping a loss to the Eagles.

I think this team should start at least 4-2 given their schedule, anything less and the season is over. Dallas has the easiest first 6 games of any team in the east. You’d like to see them handle business then win one out of the two of their tougher matchups between the eagles and greenbay. If they can start 5-1 then there is hope for the remaining part of the season but again, 3-3 or less and might as well just tank.

Rusty, very rusty.

We've shown nothing and played next to no one.

We will come out rusty and sloppy. A lot of the league will, but it'll probably look worse for Dallas with a new staff.

Hopefully they get in sync quick and make some noise.

As of now I have zero idea what to expect from the run game. I think well be good passing the ball, as long as we aren't one dimensional.

I don't know what to expect on defense. Given history and our soft DTs, as well as injured dbs and (im hedging) no Micha, our defense is in for it.

So you had to go back 9 years to find a roster that may be worse?

But i am the one who makes extrem points? See i understand: you are a fan. But keep it reasonable. I talked about one decade. Ok i give you the browns. So its the 2nd worst teams in a decade. Are you feeling better now? Me not.

Btw the browns went 3-13 that year. I am not quite sure this team is able to win 4 games.
Dallas will certainly win at least 4 games.

could have gotten a little bit of that rust off with playing a series or two in the preseason

I’m curious what you thought you were seeing before they started minicamp that made you hopeful because the flaws and issues we see now have been there all along

We knew after the draft that RB, DT and CB were going to be issues.

If you honestly think that the problems that will drive our failure are coaching, I’d say you were on a massive hopium. Dan Campbell or any other “butt kicker” head coach would have the same issues.

It’s roster building and talent that’s going to take us to a 7 win season, not the coaching.

As others have said, it is very difficult to judge when we havent really seen them against live action. The one time we had starters against starters was the Rams scrimmage and from the reports it didn't go so well. Apparently we did have some success with the passing game but there wasn't anything positive on the ground. The Rams are a good team, with a good coaching staff and aren't learning new systems on both sides of the ball.

On offense, the skill position talent at QB, WR and TE would seem to indicate they should be decently high scoring if they can give the QB time and can build any semblance of a running game. The book isn't out on the RBs yet, but I really can't imagine it being weaker than a year ago. And I don't think Schotty and staff will stick with a RB that isn't producing when there is a more effective back on the roster like McCarthy did with Elliott. The OL seems to have better depth from end to end so I am generally pretty positive about the offense as a whole.

Defense has so many question marks that it is hard to make a guess that you can really support with any evidence. With Parsons up in the air the one thing that should be top notch looks average at best. DT opposite of Osa is a complete unknown, it isn't even really clear what the pecking order is there. The LB's have looked pretty good which falls in line with what we know about Eberflus and his defense. I expect the safeties to be average at best. Corner terrifies me. Bland has been pretty good but it isn't clear yet if they will have him inside or outside. I think they just need to keep him in one position. Elam has looked good but his history says he has underachieved. Maybe the fresh start will be what he needs.

Despite what many have said about Schottenheimer being a terrible OC in previous stops, every place he has been the offenses have improved under him except when there has been a significant injury to the starting QB or they were starting a rookie QB. Hard to get a feeling in preseason how he will call plays but his history is that his offenses do run the ball.

If most things go positively it feels like they have a chance to return to the playoffs. Absent an injury to Dak, I really cant see them completely cratering...probably 6 wins is the floor with 10 wins being the ceiling.

The Cowboys can be competitive with most teams, including the Eagles. Over the course of the season, though, I think they’ll lose more than they win. Sans a motivated Micah the Cowboys defense is less of a challenge.

I’ll bet the under. 6-11.
