If I'm McFadden, my first move is to rent a limo, pick up and drive the entire OLine to Del Friscos for steaks. Rent a private room there and after dessert, stand up and have a very short but moving speech prepared about how I'm going to put it all on the line for this year to carry forward what they started last year. You have to gel with hogs like Murray did.
Then invite Romo, Witten and their wives over for dinner and lay down an open ended discussion of what I must do to be successful with this team.
Lastly, I show up at every workout first in, last out at valley ranch to earn the rest of the teams respect.
(Ok I admit there is really no need to invite the wives for dinner however I just want to get a chance to check out Romo's wife up close).
Just sayin.

I would bet money that McFadden is a better RB right now than any other back on the team and will get most of the carries............

That could be true , but that doesn't mean it is a good thing .

McFadden can pass protect and is a decent receiver out of the backfield so he has that going for him.

Just have to wait and see about his running skills. Hard to judge given the offense he's been playing in.

Who else is there?

Randle "the underwear thief" or Williams "King of the practice squad" is all we got in the bullpen.

If those guys can't then Chris Johnson is out there. Steven Jackson is out there. Knowshon Moreno will probably be ready to go soon.

And there will be other backs available.

Regardless this team does not need one guy to get 350 carries and 1,600 yards.

I fail to see how you can see how four consecutive sub 200 carry 1000 yard seasons is reminiscent of how Simpson progressed after age 24 in any way.

No Jackson would have failed running behind that pathetic OL in OAK. Being drafted by OAK was a kiss of death to anyone professional football players dream for success. Get real - understand the diffence in the organization.

Very nice piece. "Fart in a whirlwind" brought it down a notch, though.

But didn't we say the same thing about Murray before last year?

Yes, but Murray was younger and had shown flashes of being a physical runner that could run well with a ZBS. DMC has shown repeatedly that he is a bust and not even the best RB on the Raider's team. Why are fans get tying excited by signing back up RBs from the Raiders? The answer is simple. He signed with Dallas and a certain group of fans are going to blindly support him just for that reason.

Murray and McFadden are both 27.

Who was better on the 2014 Raiders team? The following are the players listed as RB on the 2014 Raider's roster.
Latavius Murray had a better average but didn't have enough carries to be statistically relevant. Troy Hambrick had a great average as Emmitt's backup. There is just no proof that any of the other RBs were better.

Joseph Randle had a 6.7 average compared to DeMarco Murray at 4.7 in 2014. Was Randle better?

Player, Attempts, Yards, Average
Darren McFadden 155, 534, 3.4
Latavius Murray 82, 424, 5.2
Maurice Jones-Drew 43, 96, 2.2
Jamize Olawale 2, 0, 0
Marcel Reece 21, 85, 4.0
George Atkinson III 0, 0 , 0

The thing that makes me nervous about McFadden is that the one year that he played in a ZBS, he sucked. I remember that from a long time ago and the article stated (the following year) that he was back in a run scheme that better suited his skills set and his increased production was the proof in the pudding.

Great question.

I'm sure some Murray fan out there will tell us that Murray's "pounding" of the defense led to Randle's great YPC average, while in Oakland McFadden was simply the stuff one gets on one's shoe as they walk through their dog pen.

Yes, Latavious Murray didn't have many more carries that Randle.

You're Darren McFadden, and you're the worst player on the Cowboy offense.

You're the weak link, the biggest question mark, and the only guy that can keep this Lamborghini of an offense out of top gear.

You're also Darren McFadden, the freakishly talented 4th pick in the 2008 draft. Probably the greatest running back in the history of Arkansas. You're big, you're fast, and you were supposed to set this league on fire. Franchise player, one of the NFL all-time greats. That was your supposed destiny.

But Oakland happened, and you all but disappeared. First in the mired seasons of futility. Then the lonely confines of the injury list. And then the humbling reality of the wrong side of the depth chart. You became backup, Darren McFadden, the guy that should have.

Finally, the Raiders said "no thank you", and you were relegated to vagabond running back looking for work.

But then, "Pig Sooey" paid off, and look at you now.

You're here, where every running back in the NFL would love to be. Redemption is yours if you have it in you. Everything is there for the changing. The perfect team for a running back.

No better situation, no better opportunity on planet Earth. Running backs are dying to be you. BETTER backs are trying to finagle their way here and take your place in running back Utopia. And the reality is, your employer hopes they can.

Yesterday, you watched the best offensive line in football fall into another great lineman. You have a top 10 quarterback with a deadly group of receivers. You're on arguably the best offense in football, and it's designed for YOU.

Frankly, only you can screw this up, and you know it. You're job security is a fart in the whirlwind.

So what do you do? You'd better prepare like you've never prepared in your life. You'd better be in the best shape you're 27-year-old body is capable of. You'd better know the playbook better than DeMarco Murray, and you'd better finish the runs he couldn't. You'd better know every pass protection Linehan asks of you. You'd better run tougher than you did before, and you'd better hang on to the ball when you do it.

You're Darren McFadden, the unrealized superstar. Or are you?

Prove it.

Do you think DM29 even comes close to 1,845 yards in Oakland? I doubt he does much better than DMC did behind that putrid OL.

I'm not saying DMC will look Bo Jackson for us, but he has skills that will translate well in Dallas:

1) 4.4 speed. If he gets the same holes DM29 got last year, he'll take it to the house.
2) Good receiver out of the backfield. Career receptions: 211. Career receiving yards: 1,769. Average: 8.4 yards/catch
3) He's known to be a good pass blocker. This, along with receiving skills makes me believe he'll be our featured RB. Gotta be able to protect Romo. I don't trust Randle to be able to do it.

This is his last shot in the NFL. Stephen Jones says he is in the best shape of his career. That tells me he is motivated and wants to prove that he still has the skills that made him the #4 overall pick in 2008. Especially behind our OL.
