Since JG-Clapper has been the coach we have gotten progressively Younger... I was looking and Im wondering if in college if he would be a Nick Sabin or a young Pete Carol... Here me out for a second

starting in 2010 when he took over it was a very veteran team AVG AGE: 34 Since then we have progressively gotten younger faster and hungrier.

2010 AVG: 33.6 RECORD 6 - 10
2011 AVG: 33.1 RECORD 8 - 8
2012 AVG: 32 RECORD 8 - 8
2013 AVG: 30.2 RECORD 8 - 8
----- START OF Youth Movement -----
2014 AVG: 29.0 RECORD 12 - 4
2015 AVG: 28.0 RECORD 4 - 12 *** Tony broken back NO Backup ***
2016 AVG: 27 RECORD 13 - 3 *** Handing of the Torch to Zeke and Dak ***
2017 AVG: 25.0 RECORD 9 - 7 *** Zeke Suspended Injuries ***
2018 AVG: 24.5 RECORD ???

Asside from the 2015 year where we had NO backup Clapper has done better job with the youth than the veterans since arriving on the Scene. When the jones hired Garrett in 2011 I was like most of you scratching my head and wishing for someone else for the next 4 years, but this guy has slowly started to grow on me and is doing a better job with the youth than he ever did with all those veterans...

Which leads me to believe IF he is fired I think JG would be one of the top college football coaches out of the gates in 2020...

IF he stays I hope we continue on this Movement of out with the aging Vets and bringing in the youth to replace there high contracts, You cannot pay everyone.

I think you should pay High priced like this:

QB
LT
G/C
DE
CB
S

if you can invest in GOOD youth at all other positions and have some sprinkled in higher priced VETs that are the core of your team I think you can be competitive year in and year out.

Because veterans can see through his act. Young guys play for anyone, they just want a job. Garrett acts like a head coach because Jerry won't let him be a real one. I would like to see what Garrett can do without having to bow to Jerry. Hopefully he will show it this season, since he may start to feel some pressure.

What was the average age of the 1992 Cowboys?

The change in average age is amazing. They've gotten much younger while generally getting better.

Garrett should have been a college head coach. He would do really well there IF he didn't function as his own OC.

I think he would get college offers if he ever gets fired by the Cowboys. It probably wound not be at the top level of college football initially but he would get offers from several programs he if made himself available.

I don't think Garrett would get NFL offers as an HC or OC.

It's hard to say if this whole youth movement is more Garrett or the front office (McClay). Either way, I think it is a good thing. New chapter!

What better yes men for Jerry's yes man to have...young guns to not question authority....:muttley:.....J/K....

The 1st thing Jason did was start purging, not only aging players, but over paid aging players that weren't producing.
He started with the OL, and rebuilt it, and now had to rebuild it again.
In the meanwhile the D suffered. But it too had to be rebuilt sever times. from the 4-3 to the 3-4 back to the 4-3. And that is what set us back more than anything else. When Parcels started that, I said back then it was a mistake and would set us back 10 years.

I am glad Garrett is building a young fast team. But I still fear his in game decisions or non-decisions and his coaches refusing to make adjustments will still hold us back.
I never was comfortable with Garrett, but certainly supported him for a while. But now I do not. Will hope for the best. But I need to see results this year.

Not sure about the "O" but the young "D" averaged only 25.5 years old in 1992.

I think younger players play and work harder and are more athletic. I believe it is a young mans game. Some anomalies but not the standard

lol at calling the guy clapper over and over and adding "this guy has slowly started to grow on me"
it would be funny if you should meet him while hes still the HC and walk up 'hey Clapper, how are you? youre doing a good job'
anyway to each their own (i know people like to make fun of the clapping and slap ***, just giving you a hard time)

so without 37 year old L.P. "the GOAT" Ladouceur how old is the team? cause that guy is seriously skewing the percentage

that and young players tend to be on rookie contracts and not 2nd or 3rd which is where they hope to get the big deal

Some have opined he'd be a better college coach than pro coach. I could definitely see that.
I would agree with this because he would be good sitting in a parent's living room and clapping while the Mrs. brings a slice of pie. And telling the mother "look, no matter how good or bad Junior might play, I'm going to clap for him".

I think, depending on the conference, he would be a very effective recruiter which is job 1 in college. And all a college coach needs to do is show a little success and that sets the perpetuation in motion. Saban doesn't have to recruit, he just nods. Meyer, same thing.

I am not enamored with the youth part of it because it's still about talent. That 92 Cowboys D was the youngest ever to win a SB but they were very talented. Just going younger does not equate to getting better. Give me a talented 30 year old player over a 24 year old less talented one but not all players improve as they age so getting them at their young peak is preferable.

I think also Garrett has learned a lot as he grew into the job. [grumble in the back ground].

.

If you look at your date line - it's when Stephen started taking over the player personnel spot and drafted smart.

Yes. There were a few second reaches on player with injury or character issues.

Jason Garrett is not going to be fired, it's not going to happen, end of story.

When Jason Garrett became the Head Coach he specifically described how he was going to build a winning team. He discussed the type of players, the culture and he had a plan for talent acquisition.

Jason didn't want to built a team capable of winning a Super Bowl during given "window". He wanted to install a system that created perpetual potential to win Super Bowls every year for a long time....like New England today....like the Cowboys of the 70's.

This is a goal that requires a longer timespan...like the Cowboys of the 70's. After their first 8 seasons Garrett and Landry have similar results, they have the exact same playoff record right down to two last minute losses to the Packers.

Yes, Landry built from scratch, a brand new franchise. However, his GM was Tex Schram, a real football expert. Jason has been handicapped with the "help" of Jerry Jones who, from time to time, has violated Jason's formula for building a perenial winner.

When all is said and done, it will be interesting to witness the response from fans when the plan produces SB's. Some will admit they misjudged them. Others....well,.... it's just a little more difficult for some to accept given their level of disdain for the former Cowboy qb.

Average AGE of the 1992 team was 26.
