- First off, happy Thanksgiving to everybody. Now that I live in Florida, I'm not used to spending Thanksgiving in a t-shirt and shorts. But, I like it :)

- This was another game where I was 'proud' of Romo. He didn't have his best stuff. He started off with 2 quick INT's. But, he kept his composure, he didn't press himself and he played smart football the rest of the way thru. The odds of winning a game going -1 in turnover margine are much greater than they are going -2 in turnover margin.

- I really liked what I saw out of DeMarco Murray. Particularly his ability down the stretch to finish out a game and to be smart enough to stay in bounds on his final run

- We again...used WAY too much shotgun. Used it on our first 3 second down plays and it helped cost us an INT. The NFLN guys were talking about how the Cowboys are a team who needs to establish the run for play action. I agree. But, we did run the ball quite a bit. The problem is that we used so much play action early on...on downs we don't need it...it costs us big plays and costs us in the running game. At the end, when we needed to use the shotgun, we did and were successful. But early on, way too much use of it. They are the 2011 Dolphins, not the '85 Bears.

- I think that we need to get rid of the constant running of the play clock down to 0. I think it may help Romo out slightly so he can see what the defense is doing. But, I think it hurts the rest of the offense much more. And I think that's why we have false start issues. When we started picking up the pace...we started to move down the field. Unfortunately, we probably won't change this until next season...if we're lucky.

- It's too bad because I think Doug Free has been playing exceptionally well the past month or so, but the false starts make him look like Flozell.

- Kenyon Coleman is starting to turn it around, particularly in run defense. But, Marcus Spears looks like a huge re-signing bust. Awful to watch out there.

- Jay Ratliff is the man. Anybody who thinks we *must* have a large, gap eating NT because Ratliff is too small is just spouting off platittudes. He's been superb this season.

- Ware got robbed on the illegal contact that took away his sack. Awful call by the refs because it was hardly rough enough contact, it was barely outside 5 yards, and Moore was about to be sacked and couldn't throw the ball anyway.

- I thought Spencer looked good except for that one time he forgot about his responsibility on Reggie Bush on a screen pass that went for a big play.

- Alan Ball has been a target this year, but he's been pretty solid for the most part. Can't say that about the Dolphins game.

- I can see why Rob Ryan doesn't use a lot of man-to-man...our corners are not good enough to run it much. May be a sign of things to come for the draft.

- Well....a win is a win. But, the team has to start playing better than they have been because come December, they won't get the luxury of facing some poor teams. I will say that at least Garrett shows some concern about the penalties instead of Wade not being bothered by them. I think he's more or less concerned about them because they showed a lack of discipline more than anything.

I did say in the pre-game thoughts that I was very worried about this game and it appears that I was right about that. The Dolphins are pretty decent statisticially and with so many former Cowboys on the team, I just got the feeling that this game meant a little more to them. Still, we did pull out with a victory in the end and when Sparano gets fired, hopefully we can bring him back to Big D.

Another post full of good thoughts and seasonal fun...

but I disagree on your assessment on Anthony Spencer. He had three tackles for a loss and his tackle total for the game was from 7-9. Look again at consistency in his play. As to team totals in sacks, they included one each from Hatcher, Coleman, Lee in crunch time, and Scandrick. Ware was 'robbed' of his. But Ware recovered the scoring set-up fumble, and made a play on Bush at the goal line that saved a touchdown as well.

That drives me nuts to. Is it to give defenses no time to change what they are doing?

The ref responsible for throwing the Illegal contact flag doesn't check to make sure the QB isn't being sacked. It was the right call. Other than that, good post.

it was a ticky tack call. Symptom of referees wanting to be seen. Incidental or slightly more contact should not be flagged. This is NOT touch football YET.

The good thing about Spears is his contract was very cap friendly. Very.

I think he's been better throughout the year and just had a bad game yesterday though. He also looks a lot bigger than he has in previous years.

If that is the right call, you should have flags every single play because that contact was minimal and didn't disrupt the receiver one bit.

I am loathe to complain about ref calls because it's usually just fan whining, but that call on Ware's sack WAS weak.

If he's going to call that then he needs to call every down that Miami's defense was in coverage. They were playing much more physical with our wrs.

I don't think many have said we must have a big NT to replace Rat. I want a big NT to supplement Rat and to play in the heavy formations and as needed. There have been times when Rat was double teamed and they ran up the middle on us. I think a 3-4 needs someone who can anchor the line at times although I like our 3-4 that plays penetration and one gap for the most part.

So our CB's cant play man....but when Wade was here...we heard that our CB's struggled with Zone coverage and were better at man.

Go figure eh?

I dont know...I think Jenkins is pretty good playing man......Newman too but he needs a safety behind him.

Ball? I dont now what he is good at......being a 5th CB...not many snaps...

Agreed.

Actually, Ware should have had two sacks yesterday. He was tackled by Long on the one play where the refs called holding, and then of course the sack that was taken away by the refs because of that horrible call.

I don't like to whine about officiating either, but it seemed like we had a few genuine gripes about yesterday's officiating even beyond the terrible call that erased Ware's sack...there were some passes that I thought should have been PI, or at least defensive holding for us as well that were never called and could have made a huge difference.

Jerry didn't like that call either.
"We had a terrible, about as bad of an officiating call, on a hold on Elam, that would have given us the turnover, that I've seen," Jones said on his Friday morning radio show on KRLD-FM. "In review, it is awful. The bottom line is you got to have that. You're going to get some of those but you shouldn’t. But you're going to get some of them. It really shouldn’t be called if you don’t see it, and he didn’t see that because it wasn’t there."

Enjoyed that post YR. You know I enjoy them all but I don't often say it. This one in particular I really enjoyed.

We struggled in man badly last season. It wasn't until Garrett took over that we switched to more zone and the pass defense went from awful to mediocre.

I think Jenkins can play man well. Scandrick is average. Ball simply can't and Newman's days of playing man are well gone.
