The Lord said, do whatever you have to do. And he didn't say "Joe, be polite." – Joe Clark

I was thinking about this the other day. To me, I think Garrett has some plans up his sleeve. And I pluralized the word plan. I think he is primed to do some things that Cowboys fans are not accustomed to. I remember one play in the 2nd quarter, they panned to Garrett and he wasn’t livid, but he was noticeably ticked off. That kinda boiling…I’m really aggravated and sooner or later some people or some things are going to feel my wrath. I think he’s got big plans to turn things on its ear…soon. I couldn’t help but think of the movie ‘Lean On Me’, much like the way Joe Clark turned Eastside High on its ear.

Mr. Clark don’t play! – Kaneesha

I really wouldn’t be surprised to see a major surprise cut or two. And I think Montrae Holland might be one of those people. I think Garrett was aggravated with him showing up out of shape. I mean, Dallas has paid this guy pretty well, he’s been kept out of arm’s way with a ‘cush’ position as the backup swing-guard. Now they are giving him an opportunity (note the word opportunity) to be the starter. His response? Show up out of shape. I think Garrett’s hands were tied a bit early on with the lockout and all, but once Holland got hurt Garrett decided to experiment. I like the experiment. And I think we won’t see the ole ‘you can’t lose your position because you got injured’ or ‘we don’t play rookies’ stuff like we saw with Wade. I think the ‘Holland will be the starter when he comes back’ is a BIT of a smoke screen. I think Garrett wants to see how he responds. If he continues to slack off, I really wouldn’t be shocked if he got cut. Again…remember…this ain’t Wade Phillips coaching this team.

Discipline is not the enemy of enthusiasm! – Joe Clark

I think I like the extension of Scandrick. Here’s what I remember of the Orlando Scandrick career so far. Drafted in the 5th round. Had a great rookie training camp. A real good tackler his rookie year who picked up things right away.

Year 2, struggled with tackling…badly. Wasn’t nearly as effective.

Year 3. Still struggling under Wade, particularly in tackling. Wade gets fired, tackling picks up immediately, starts making plays and shows it was not a fluke.

To me, I think Scandrick is one of those players who needs a good, crisp and tough practice to sharpen his skills. I don’t think the ‘no tackling at all’ worked for him. Sorta like a golfer not getting on the driving range before a round of golf.

I didn’t know Scandrick was so young. I think Garrett and company really see something in the guy and I think it’s going to wind up being a steal.

Do whatever you have to to transform and transmogrify this school into a special place where the hearts and souls and minds of the young can rise – Joe Clark

I also think Garrett is playing mind games with David Buehler as well. Remember, last year we basically said ‘no competition for Buehler, we want him to grow.’ Well, he got that chance and disappointed us. Soooo….4 kickers in camp?

To me, it’s saying to Buehler you can win the job…but only if you beat out some serious competition. He didn’t get that last year, Garrett is putting an end to that. I think it sends a message to the team. Players don’t like the fact that they have to compete for a job and another guy, who may not win a tough battle…doesn’t. Even if they are the kicker. I’m telling ya…I really think Garrett is going to be something. I just think as Cowboys fans, 4 years of Wade’s way kinda stuck in our brain that things are not different or not as well thought out.

‘You'll be dead in a year, son. Hear what I'm saying? You'll be dead in a year. – Joe Clark

It appears that Roy L. Williams, the safety is retiring. I really have nothing bad to say about the guy or even the player. The guy gave us 4 great years of football. I was talking to this with a buddy of mine the other day. If you have a guy who plays 8 years and stinks his first 4 years and is great his last 4 years…the guy is revered. But if another guy plays 8 years and is great his first 4 years and stinks his last 4 years….he’s almost vilified.

It’s one of the reasons why I think the NFL has so much parity…player’s success and effectiveness on the field is so fleeting. One day you are this beast of a safety who makes plays, the next you are this dilapidated player who doesn’t fit into the game and just doesn’t have the same killer instinct.

Eh…he seems like a standup human being who always put an effort in and didn’t snitch to the media. That and 4 years of good football, I’ll take that as a draft pick any day.

I want all of you to take a good look at these people on the risers behind me. These people have been here roughly five years, and done absolutely nothing. They have taken up space. They have disrupted this school. They have harassed your teachers. And they have intimidated you. Well, times are about to change. You will not be bothered in Joe Clark's school. These people are incorrigible. And since none of them could graduate anyway... you are all expurgated. You are dismissed! You are out of here, forever – Joe Clark

To make an omelet, you have to break a few eggs. I just happen to like a lot of what I’m seeing from Garrett. I think we’ll see the results this year, 2012 at the latest. I really want to thank Bradie James for saying what needed to be said. Now, we just need the right coach to fix it. I think Garrett is it. He knows what it’s like to play in Dallas and quite frankly, he should be a bit insulted that any player thinks they deserve the hype and hooplah of being a Dallas Cowboy when they haven’t accomplished 1/10th of what the teams he played on in his career.

The problem with Parcells is that he didn’t realize it was a week by week, year after year thing. Plus, I think his conservative strategy sorta sucked the fun out of it for players. I think Garrett can deal with those things.

It’s like I’ve said for awhile, there is no better motivator in sports than the coach who not only is unafraid to get rid of any player, but can find a more than suitable replacement.

Player’s who know the coach won’t get rid of them or bench them, tend to rest on their laurels. And even if they get benched, if the coach cannot find a suitable replacement, they know that the coach needs them.

People can usually smell desperation.

I think Garrett can do that. And I think we can get that day where a player tells another player ‘Mr. Garrett don’t play!’

Wow, YR! I think that was your most brilliant post ever. It left me in awe and speachless...

I think a cut is coming that is larger (per the perspective of the team-- not the size of the player :)) than Holland.

Do tell, sir!

Gonna say it again. There really needs to be a mymeaninglessthoughts.wordpress.com. And yes, wordpress is that much better than blogger or blogspot.

Here are two possibles... Not that that you have to be a rocket surgeon to figure out...

Igor
Gurode

Given the amount both guys are getting is paid this year I can easily see either or both being cut IF they are not starters.

You've got what? About $8 mil in cap space sewn up with both guys? That amount of cap space, added to what the team already has, would look mighty spiffy going into next season where the team already faces dead cap money of $20 mil.

Honestly, I'm not sure the team would miss either one quite frankly. I think Igor is more likely to go than Gurode, but I would be shocked to see Gurode axed.

Thanks Mike. I see it the same way too, BTW. I don't think they'll cut Gurode, but if they like Costa anywhere close to as much as him, then I'm all for it.

Of course, Igor can hit the road for all I care.

I think Holland will be kept around if they think his back is NOT going to be chronic; if it is he is gone. Fact is he is a very solid guard. Those slobering over Nagy and Arkin don't seem to get that.

And gurode will not be cut because even if the fantasy of some is that Costa is the starting center (about as much chance of McGee being starting QB) is WHO WOULD BE COSTA's backup? Nagy? not likely.

Does Gurode have any trade value?

YR.. thanks for the post.. I may not always agree with what you say but man.. i love the way you say it (Most of the time i do agree tho). Right up until Costa got hurt I thought it was possible that Gurode was on the bubble but now he isnt. My logic goes like this and correct me if I'm wrong. Except for Costa, no one was pushing Gurode for the job. With Costa being out 2-4 weeks, Gurode has to start that first week at least. Once he plays a regular season game his salary is guaranteed and therefore we dont gain anything by cutting him once Costa comes back.

As far as Gurode moving to LG once Costa comes back, isn't going to happen either. Remember when he actually played that position? He sucked! All reports indicate that Nagy is more than holding his own their. I truly believe that Garrett is a proponent of "the best 5" linemand and that doesn't include playing a horrible Gurode out of position.
Free-Nagy-Costa/Gurode-Kosier-TSmith .... This is how i see as the starting lineup for the season.
