- First things things. Like the Cowboys being in FIRST. Yes, ahead of the G-Men who are 1-2 in the division whereas Dallas in 1-1 in the division.

- This game did scare me. People forget that come about mid-November, road games become harder across the league. This is where those weird upsets happen. Not to knock Romo, it's just hard to be on fire as a QB 2 weeks in a row this late in the season...particularly when one game is on the road, outdoors in November. Combine that with this being the Commanders' Super Bowl and Fiammetta being out with the flu. It was a game that I really didn't like coming into. But, they got the duke and now we move on.

- I am a big Syracuse University fan. Grew up there as a kid, had season basketball and football tix. Hell, by my late teen years I was starting to look like Randy Quaid in Major League II from watching Pasqualoni football. I loved a quote on Saturday from bball coach Jim Boeheim in midst of the allegations against assistant Bernie Fine. A reporter asked to the effect, do you think that other teams will use the allegations as 'negative recruiting' against Syracuse?

Boeheim laughed and said he loves it when other teams use negative recruiting because then he knows if a recruit is buying into their negative recruiting...that's not the player they want on the team. That's how I feel about the Commanders 'suck for Luck' or 'whiffin for Griffin' or whatever. Like negative recruiting, it's a loser mentality and I have no worries about a team with a loser mentality. As much as I loathe the Eagles, I am more worried about them next season as they strive to play the best football they can play (and are not out of it, yet).

- I don't really blame the corners althought Scandrick looked poor tackling and Newman didn't play a great game either. But, the reason why Grossman was completing passes is that the pressure didn't quite get there and we kept using zone coverage. Ryan should've switched it up more and we do need more pressure from somebody besides Ware.

- The real embarrassing play on defense was the QB draw by Grossman for a TD. Oldest inside the 5 yard line play in the NFL. And we fell for it.

- Kinda the overall theme on defense, didn't look prepared. I was really excited to see the defense play given this was Ryan's second go around against the Commanders. Great D-Coordinators usually do well the 2nd time around on teams (the late Jim Johnson was fantastic at this). But, Ryan was out-coached by Kyle freaking Shanahan.

- This is the type of play we need to see from Romo. First, he did NOT have his A game on him. He missed some key passes early and wasn't that accurate on a lot of throws. He also will be responsible for 2 sacks on coach's film (Fletcher and the sack given up by Tyron, which Romo held onto the ball too long). But, he didn't press too hard, he still made throws from the pocket and was willing to make plays outside the pocket. Furthermore, he didn't turn the ball over. That's a big reason why we won, we were +2 in turnover margin.

- We are +6 on turnover margin for the year. Haven't been that good since the 90's.

- I think we can learn from the Fiammetta era that this offense operates best with a fullback and being able to run the ball pretty well. Sometimes, offensive coaches never get that missing piece down. I think with Fiammetta and how this offense performs with him in there, we should realize that we need to have a good blocking FB going forward.

- O-Line I thought looked pretty good except for Kosier and Costa.

- What a difference a good kicker can make.

- A good win because it was a win. Skins fans can say what they want, but they would not be saying what they want unless this game actually meant something to them. And I can't imagine any true fan like being swept by their hated rival. It's really a fairweather mentality of 'I only root for the team when we get a good QB.' Well, nobody ever said that Skins fans weren't hypocrites.

Bump. There's absolutely no reason that this weekly anticipated thread should fall off the first page without a single reply.

I'm sure that you know, but Dallas is 2-1 in the division and not 1-1.

I like the mentality switch now that we have Murray, the run game was not producing as it has the last 4 games, but we stuck with it, we did not forget to run.

I think Jason understands this, at least I hope so.

More generally, it is rarely easy to walk into one of our NFC East opponent's homes and expect to do much better than play a close game, regardless of records.

As Moose, said yesterday records do not seem to matter in this rivalry, the 1-15 season and the 12-4 season, 2 of our losses were to the skins.

Also worth noting, the Cowboys are 5-2 in the NFC. The Giants are 3-4. Their loss yesterday really hurts their chances of earning a WC spot.

The two games we play against the G-men are going to be for the division, I'm pretty sure. They could sweep us and end up with the same record and win the tie breaker, or something lame like that. I don't expect that to happen, but it's going to make it very important that we beat them the first time we play in Dallas.

So if we win the next 2 and the Giants lose the next two against the Saints and Packers we would be 6 - 2 and in the NFC and 8 - 4 overall, while the Giants would be 3 - 6 and 6 - 6.

That would mean that if we beat the Giants at home the next week to go to 9-4 and 7-2 (nfc) they would be 6-7 and 3-7. That would mean there would be no chance the Giants could catch us.

I still think we used too much shotgun. We did run from the shotgun and perhaps no Fiammetta forced us into the shotgun more. Perhaps we didn't think we could get play action off as well.

But, we didn't abandon the run and even though it wasn't pretty, we scored 27 points on the road, in November, against a decent defense.

To Grossman's credit, when he does get some confidence, he can make some great throws. The problem I had was that we were using too much zone when Grossman was developing confidence. Kinda like Rob Ryan saying 'he won't play mistake free for the entire game, so we'll keep playing zone.'

I just want us to be 8-4 by the time we face the Giants.

It means a few things but could be crucial to us winning the division or earning a WC spot. I think we split with the Giants and beat the Eagles at home to finish 4-2 in the division.

As an aside.

Didnt we beat the skins 6 in a row during out three-peat of 5-11 seasons? :laugh2:

I think that was what Ryan was thinking, I have watched him every game this year and he will always make a mistake or two, sometimes with pressure, sometimes on his own. But we let him get too comfortable, I think the quick passes to the flat also concerned Ryan.

But we needed to mix it up, Rex will speed up (and make mistakes) if you get in his face occasionally. My problem was we did not mix it up enough to get him thinking.

Well he did eventually throw INT.

He almost burned us with that almost TD that Ball defended.

I think that taking those sacks and the lack of turnovers are directly related. He didn't do anything stupid on those plays. He couldn't get out of the tackle box, so it was either take the sack, throw up a prayer, or try to throw something away that wouldn't be called intentional. I think those were smart sacks.

We were +7 in 2007 before the meltdown and miracle in Buffalo. We were +8 after 11 games in 2006.

We also made a 4th and 1 attempt. Big play.

We have to be able to generate more pressure then we did yesterday against quality teams. I watched Spencer on a couple of series yesterday and he honestly looked like he didn't understand or even know what he was supposed to be doing. I am seriously worried about that guy.

I am watching the interior of our DL and I can see them wearing down a bit. The Cowboys have had a habit of doing this over the last several years. I imagine it is because we use a smaller NT. We fade a bit as the season draws on. We really need a strong NT IMO. Somebody who can come in and strengthen the interior of our defense in December and further into the playoffs. I hope we make this a priority next year. I like Ratt and I think he can still be imposing in passing situations but I think we need to find him some help in order to keep him fresh and healthy. JMO.

Sensy played a real good game I thought yesterday. He was clearly hurting after the foot injury but he kept it together. I really liked what I saw out of him.

I wished we had more time to spend with Carter. I really, really like what I see out of him on STs. I am very hopeful for our future ILBs.
