- I remember long ago, ESPN.com had some interesting statistics about the history of the NFL. One of them was that teams that were down by more than 7 points in the first quarter, went on to lose 80% of the time. We also have to remember teams whom have a block punt returned for a TD in the game typically lose as well. Combine that with playing on the road, particularly in Seattle, the Cowboys were well behind the 8-ball against the Seahawks. If there’s one thing that I think could be Garrett’s Achilles Heel, it’s his inability to get his offense’s out to a fast start.
- Quite frankly, we’ll never win a Super Bowl or even go to a Super Bowl if our defense cannot force turnovers. Yes, the offense was putrid and the special teams was worse. But that’s in part why a defense has to make turnovers, to allow the team to get back in the game.
- I was very impressed by the Seahawks secondary, even though the only names I knew were Earl Thomas and Brandon Browner. I thought Moose nailed it, their closing speed was impressive and they are a very physical bunch.
- While I bemoan the defense’s inability to make turnovers, I’m not too upset with them. The offense was putrid. Everybody seemed off. Romo, the O-Line, Dez dropping passes, Witten playing the worst game of his career, etc.
- Despite the punt being blocked, I think we are really going to like Chris Jones as a punter. He reminds me a lot of a Jeff Feagles type, gets really good hang time and is adept at kicking it right on the sideline so they can use the sideline as an extra defender.
- Dear Jason Garrett, please run more sprint-draws with Murray…he’s a natural at running them.
- The anger towards Felix is simple. We drafted him as a backup compliment RB that was supposed to do kickoffs and work in passing down packages. He has been constantly injured and we wind up making him the starter. When that doesn’t work out, we move him back to the cushy job (by NFL standards) of a highly paid backup tailback. His response? Show up to camp out of shape. Real disappointing to see and personally I would rather lose with somebody who works their tail off and does what the team asks of them instead of pouts and takes the offseason off.
- I thought the gameplan by Rob Ryan was to keep Russell Wilson in the pocket and see if he could beat us from the pocket. Well, he did. I can’t say I disagree with the gameplan, although I would have liked to have seen it changed up a bit when it was not working.
- I thought they should have thrown a flag on the Sean Lee block because it’s the rule. However, I don’t like the rule. To me, that’s good football. The ball carrier was within a decent proximity to Lee and Tate just obliterated him. It sucks to have happened to Lee, but I think it’s the way the game was designed to be played.
- This is what I sort of expected out of this team this year. I thought we would get rid of the heartbreaking losses in games that we dominated, but I thought we don’t have the talent at this moment to play well, week after week. I thought we would win a game by outplaying the other team and then lose a game by being clearly outplayed and wind up 8-8 on the season.
What bothers me though is that good coaches have the team more prepared mentally and emotionally. Seattle seemed to be enthusiastic and had a higher energy level from the get-go and for having 11 days off, the QB and WR’s had no sense of what they were doing and the O-Line struggled to pick up blitzers. The good news is that they are still on top of the NFC East at this moment and have a home game next week against the Bucs. We’ve seen that they haven’t handled success very well so far this year. Now we’ll see if they can handle failure. Will they bounce back or will they come out lethargic again?
