YR's My Meaningless Thoughts On The Game...

- I remember long ago, ESPN.com had some interesting statistics about the history of the NFL. One of them was that teams that were down by more than 7 points in the first quarter, went on to lose 80% of the time. We also have to remember teams whom have a block punt returned for a TD in the game typically lose as well. Combine that with playing on the road, particularly in Seattle, the Cowboys were well behind the 8-ball against the Seahawks. If there’s one thing that I think could be Garrett’s Achilles Heel, it’s his inability to get his offense’s out to a fast start.

- Quite frankly, we’ll never win a Super Bowl or even go to a Super Bowl if our defense cannot force turnovers. Yes, the offense was putrid and the special teams was worse. But that’s in part why a defense has to make turnovers, to allow the team to get back in the game.

- I was very impressed by the Seahawks secondary, even though the only names I knew were Earl Thomas and Brandon Browner. I thought Moose nailed it, their closing speed was impressive and they are a very physical bunch.

- While I bemoan the defense’s inability to make turnovers, I’m not too upset with them. The offense was putrid. Everybody seemed off. Romo, the O-Line, Dez dropping passes, Witten playing the worst game of his career, etc.

- Despite the punt being blocked, I think we are really going to like Chris Jones as a punter. He reminds me a lot of a Jeff Feagles type, gets really good hang time and is adept at kicking it right on the sideline so they can use the sideline as an extra defender.

- Dear Jason Garrett, please run more sprint-draws with Murray…he’s a natural at running them.

- The anger towards Felix is simple. We drafted him as a backup compliment RB that was supposed to do kickoffs and work in passing down packages. He has been constantly injured and we wind up making him the starter. When that doesn’t work out, we move him back to the cushy job (by NFL standards) of a highly paid backup tailback. His response? Show up to camp out of shape. Real disappointing to see and personally I would rather lose with somebody who works their tail off and does what the team asks of them instead of pouts and takes the offseason off.

- I thought the gameplan by Rob Ryan was to keep Russell Wilson in the pocket and see if he could beat us from the pocket. Well, he did. I can’t say I disagree with the gameplan, although I would have liked to have seen it changed up a bit when it was not working.

- I thought they should have thrown a flag on the Sean Lee block because it’s the rule. However, I don’t like the rule. To me, that’s good football. The ball carrier was within a decent proximity to Lee and Tate just obliterated him. It sucks to have happened to Lee, but I think it’s the way the game was designed to be played.

- This is what I sort of expected out of this team this year. I thought we would get rid of the heartbreaking losses in games that we dominated, but I thought we don’t have the talent at this moment to play well, week after week. I thought we would win a game by outplaying the other team and then lose a game by being clearly outplayed and wind up 8-8 on the season.

What bothers me though is that good coaches have the team more prepared mentally and emotionally. Seattle seemed to be enthusiastic and had a higher energy level from the get-go and for having 11 days off, the QB and WR’s had no sense of what they were doing and the O-Line struggled to pick up blitzers. The good news is that they are still on top of the NFC East at this moment and have a home game next week against the Bucs. We’ve seen that they haven’t handled success very well so far this year. Now we’ll see if they can handle failure. Will they bounce back or will they come out lethargic again?

Good post.

I feel like our talent is above par in the NFL and I don't feel like it's 8-8 talent.

I personally think this team has a major focus issue. When focus is there we are a tough team to beat. Yesterday the Cowboys didn't even look like they were interested in playing. They didn't match Seattle's intensity.

Btw, Garrett may go on to do whatever, but I really wish Jim Harbaugh was our coach :(.

Cowboys at Giants is the only division game that's taken place, and we won.

That's correct, but it begins with W-L.

I agree, there's really no silver lining to be found here. Winning next weekend is the only 'deodorant'.

let me try this a different way....if the season ended today...who wins the NFC East?

No we aren't. The Eagles are in first place. A team that played through adversity and has mental toughness. They looked great yesterday against one of the toughest teams in the AFC. Meanwhile we got smoked by a rookie QB and again were mentally weak.

Sure, we get the bucs next week.. but can we seriously beat them?

It's sad that you have to dumb it down that far for some people. :bang2:

Football is about momentum. When the Cowboys were trying to get it back a dropped pass would kill it. I wonder if deep inside Witten’s mind he was too focused on the hit he was about to take when trying to make a catch? Bryant i think was just trying too hard to get YAC. Defense had a horrible game plan and suck with it till the dying end. Cowboys need to get back to the drawing board and quickly.

Whatever. Go to Nfl.com, standings. Sort by division column in the NFC East. Who is #1?

I don't really want to get into it with fans today.....we are all angry...and on edge. So I am going to let this go. But we could go 6-0 in the division. And lose every other game. that would make us 6-10...does that make us division champs? In fact, since you are on NFL.com....research this for me...has this division ever been won with a 6-10 record?

Has the division ever been won in week 2 of the regular season?

I think we all realize the Eagles are 2-0. I was merely pointing out why YR may have posted that tidbit. I don't really care either way.

We're in an NFL where the Cardinals can beat New England at home. Of course we can beat them and vice versa.

Good stuff YR, I think my main beef is how you can have all that time to work on ST and not only fail to find a flaw in your opponent, but **** the bed in simple execution. DA-clamiss needs to go.

Tony continues to amaze me, mostly lights out last week, this week he shows up with a flaw in his mechanics and has a wobble in his throws, it wasn't a case of the receivers all had the drops on the same day. There were some drops, but Tony was throwing some knucklers.

Lastly, Rob, can we at least jump around pre-snap and create some havoc for a unrefined OL?

Ahhh...on to the Bucs.

Who also has better players on the Defense. Especially the front 7.

Onto the Bucs.

fair enough...like I said, we are all a little edgy....I was nitpicking...I apologize
