I don't know if there has ever been a lineman to win offensive rookie of the year but the impact he has had on this team has been incredible. I know other flashier positions get all the attention but I would be hard pressed to find another rookie who has helped his team as much as Zach has.

Great choice.

No offensive lineman has ever won offensive rookie of the year.

For Zach Martin to win OROY the following would have to happen

#1 No skill player could make national headlines
#2 We would have to run for over 2000 yards
#3 We should have to win the super bowl

Unfortunately right now it is looking like Kelvin Benjamin

He should but he won't. OL players get few mentions by media unless they are screwing up. What I do expect is to see him on the all rookie team that is selected at the end of the year

It will never happen, but the guy showed why he was the pick yesterday. I thought Freebeard was a beast at the second level... Martin was our best offensive lineman yesterday on every level and it wasn't even close.

How about this one that I was thinking the other day? Even though there are a lot of good guards that are more established.

Pro bowl?

If Larry Warford can't win the award, then Martin has no shot. Warford had about as good of a rookie season as you can get, and by all accounts SHOULD have won it over Lacy, but it's not a sexy position.

Five left tackles have made the pro bowl as rookies. No other offensive line position has done so.

I would say given the amount of attention our offensive line is receiving in the press, there is a chance that Zach Martin could make it. Especially when our team wins because of our offensive line and it is pointed out that he was selected instead of Johnny Manziel.

A lot of these things depend on what the team does overall.

If we can keep winning, and the line keeps getting attention, I think you could be looking at Smith, Frederick, and Martin in the pro bowl this.

They've already made Murray an almost lock to make the pro bowl, and it's only been 5 weeks.

I think you make some good points of why he could make it, hope your right.

I think it will be tough but your points are exactly what would change that.

I agree with #1 and 2, but isn't the award given out before #3?

I agree he probably won't win it, but I think he has a much better chance than Warford. Let's say no other offensive players emerge this year (which is possible considering there really haven't been any successful rookie QBs or RBs) and Murray breaks the all-time record in large part due to his O-line, then I think Martin might actually have a chance. The only way O-line really get recognition is if the offense does something big. The Lions were the Lions last year, despite how well Warford played.

If they have any blowout wins, they should let him run the ball or line as a Tackle-eligible and catch a pass. Then he would get more recognition for OROY.;)

Or let him play QB after the 3rd quarter if we're up 3 TDs.

Now that would be funny. I can see a pass rusher coming in for a sack and Martin just slams him to the ground with one hand while holding onto the ball with the other.
