Me personally, i think this is one of the reasons he hadn't been signed yet. Wanted to see what the new market was. Martin is better than this guy, and will likely feel he deserves more.

edit: He posts this right after i post my thread haha

How much is too much for a guard? (Just a general question)
Next year we'll be at 32 million dollars between 3 offensive linemen not including Martin or a left guard.
Smith in 19 is the #2 paid LT, Frederick is #2, Martin may be #1 and Collins is #5.

Good for Norwell. So now Martin gets 5yrs 67M with 31M guaranteed. Avg of $13.4/yr. Doubt Dallas didn't expect the range to be somewhere around this amount.

This shouldn't be that surprising. If I were Martin's agent there is no way I don't let free agency set his market.

Yeah I guess now we have to figure Martin gets ~15mill/ year with 35 million guaranteed. Martin is a top 3 guard in this league and he will get paid like one.

A bit less than I expected. Martin was gonna get paid more than that regardless.

Sure. He can do that. Of course he has to go through his 5th year contract with no security, then a franchise tag with out security, and probably another franchise tag again with no security. If he runs the gauntlet and all goes well he might have earned 3 years 35m paid in weekly instalments and finally hit free agency as a 30 y.o. Or he can sign a 6 year deal where he gets a 20m signing bonus up front and probably his contract restructured 2-3 times again paid upfront in summer.....I know which I’d rather.

The cap doesn’t properly consider the time value of money but I’m sure Martin does.
