Not to make this bigger than it is, but stingers are serious business. A stinger in effect ended Daryl Johnston's career (he was more prone to them after his neck surgery), and severely limited Mean Joe Greene in his final seasons as a Steeler. DeMarcus Ware has been plagued with stinger issues for the past six seasons.

Fortunately, there is a big difference between a guard having one and a defensive lineman.

Tackling, or getting tackled, typically causes stingers. Shoulder to shoulder contact at high speed. Blocking from close range usually doesn't result in that type of hit.
