Side note: you have all 90 players on the roster being better than most think
For starters, they are only 86 players on the roster. And no, I don't think all are better than most think. We have some JAG's just like every other team in the league.

I have no problem with Bass as Martin's replacement. That could change of course, but he is supposedly more comfortable at RG and when he played last year he looked okay. Of course Bass will not be Zack Martin but he doesn't have to be. Maybe Tyler Smith is the next Zack Martin and Bass just becomes a solid RG. Offensive lines are more about continuity and cohesiveness than just having stars. I am not going to anoint anyone until I see him play some, but the potential for a good OL is there. Hoffman is a guy who seems to be driven to get better. So is Bass. With Beebe and Guyton I think they can be pretty good group even without Zack Martin. They need a leader to emerge and I think it could be Beebe.

Bass I think will be a good player; Hoffman I am not so optimistic about. Trying is not doing; I have seen a lot of players work their butts off but still are no more than JAGS.

Pre season helps.

Bass did get 2 starts last season.
There’s a difference between starting two games and starting 17. I liked what I saw from Bass last year for the most part. But I‘m not ready to break out the anointing oil for TJ Bass as our next starting RG in 2025.

I wouldn’t be counting on an undrafted free agent being a solid replacement for a future Hall of Fame player. Our great OL from 2014 thru 2016 was built with mostly first round players. Can anyone think of an undrafted free agent who became a stellar player on our OL?
Can we not be biased to someone who wasn't drafted in the first round?!

there are plenty of hall of Famers, plenty of pro bowlers, both drafted and late rounders plus undrafted players throughout the history of the NFL and you should know better...

I mean I realize don't have respect for Terence Steele but before his injury he was headed that way Lael Collins was talented enough but head wasn't right... and you don't need to play like a Hall of Famer to replace somebody, you just need to be good, and I believe we do have those dudes on this roster...possibly, sure but dot count them out.

I think we put plenty of them on there and you don't need a bunch of first rounders to fill out any position, that is a ridiculous narrative that people create as if every first rounder works out and they don't they also BUST in the first round or are simply average.

there are a lot of reaches a lot of people had high expectations and that didn't work out it kind of balances out all throughout the draft and undrafted, so let's be clear stop having this first round bias that either you have to be from a first round or you're probably not going to work out....

How is that any different for any player taken anywhere in the draft or not in the draft??

literally, you have to see them all play are you trying to tell me that the expectations were set so high for first rounders and then they all worked out?

I mean how those three first round picks for Trey Lance workout and I know he's a quarterback but I've seen people reach on other positions in the first round and they have all had issues like literally the expectations of being a first rounder like you're anointed how is that any different then hey we have to see it's always TBD with all players I don't even care if you came out of college and we're a superstar that doesn't even matter in the NFL you literally have to fit in and hope you get on a team that can utilize and advance your talent...

in my opinion all players need to be developed, it's very rare to have one come out of college and just be a star when that was their expectation they literally have to get time on the field they need to adapt to the NFL and they need to be coached.. they need to be developed, I don't care if you're a first rounder or 7th rounder or you're undrafted a lot of this is about coaches who see potential and they draft you or they pick you up they bring you on a team and then they develop you....

So, when someone says this because somebody's undrafted, I don't see how that's any different from a first rounder because I've seen first rounders fail all the time.... And how many second rounders have not made it here I mean that's been the big narrative... But then we go deeper in the draft you pick up guys like Duran bland or the 49ers find Brock Purdy in this last drafted player in the NFL and literally bailed him out by accident from that failure in Trey Lance....

So I think once you make it to the NFL, it doesn't matter where you were picked or not picked it's you talented enough and are you coachable enough to develop into something and that goes for first rounders you act like we shouldn't annoy an undrafted player well you shouldn't count on a first rounder either.

Agree.

But he was 2x All Conf in NCAA ball.

He just needs reps.

Rob Petitti a 6th round won the RT job his rookie year. Some thought he was going to be real good. He started all 16 games but struggled the final month of the season and was gone the very next year. We had two players beat him out which made him expendable. His father posted on this board during a discussion we had about Petitti.
Yeah, it's always a possibility that someone who looked good can't maintain it. I briefly had some hope in Pat McQuistan (who replaced Petitti) as well, but it faded fast. Any hope is based on what we saw last year, but it was limited action and defenses haven't really had the opportunity to dissect their strengths and weaknesses to figure out how to best attack them. We definitely have to recognize that. As I said, that's why I'm glad we have Martin for at least one more year, so these rookies get a chance to show whether the promise we saw last year isn't fool's gold. Of course, we're not going to know completely until they are thrown into the fire.
