I didn't realize Zeke carried the ball "per game" more than any back in the league last year. He had almost as many carries in 10 games as some of the Top Ten backs had in 16 games. I didn't go back and look at Emmitt's carries per game, I watched every game he played, but I'm sure they are high with the offense they ran. Emmitt was good at avoiding the big hit though. I also believe Garrett is trying to emulate what they done back then with the O line he's built along with drafting a back like Elliott. Zeke averaged 24 carries a game while Kareem Hunt, the leading rusher, averaged 17 per game. The closest to Zeke is Bell who had 21. I also believe that Dak is part of the reason for Zeke's workload since he's still developing. I know that feeding Zeke is going to result in more wins than using any other back on the roster but he's just not going to last at this rate. I guess with Rb's being a dime a dozen, as some say, it won't matter since we have to win now. The only thing is Zeke is not your typical back.....

The reality of today’s nfl is you run then every down you can, and in his case you use your 5th year option
Zeke is not like many RB but 3 years from now he is very likely to be just like the others after the wear and tear on his body
You can’t protect players, you play them as long as they are effective and when they aren’t effective anymore you move on
It happens to all of them though with RB’s it generally happens earlier than say a oline guy

Part of it was that early in the season Zeke got extra carries because they knew he'd be getting a 6 week vacation at some point

Zeke is built like a tank.and solid as a brick.
He ain't your average RB.
Just don't run him into the ground like Houston did to Earl Campbell.

First you be a man. A real one. Not a 2018 version worried about saving somebody. It's hard enough to win in this league without decreasing those odds by failing to play your best hand. Zeke is our best hand. I couldn't give two craps about his future much like how the Cowboys didn't give a bleep about Emmitt's. They just rode that horse. There was no pitch count then and there shouldn't be one now.

If you're scared get a dog. It's a man's sport. Either ride Zeke or forfeit any chance you have to compete this year.

Any rb that gets excessive carries will wear down quickly. It’s been proven no matter how tough you think the guy is. At this rate, he is done at 28.

So what were his numbers in those games compared to other games? I don't think they change their number of touches based on a looming 6 game suspension.

Wow...his 3rd year has not even started yet, and some already looking at his career will be over soon.
How about waiting to see how he is used in this supposedly new style offense.

Which I question if it really is a new style and not just more lip service.

So we ride him for 4 or 5 seasons then cut him loose and draft the next one. Sounds like good business to me.

According to what dak said it’s basically the same thing. So. Yay for more of the same

By 27, Zeke will likely eat and drink his way out of the NFL.

Use and abuse him now.

With RB's, it's more about touches than carries in today's NFL. Bell and Hunt get their touches just like Zeke gets his. Zeke has been underutilized in the passing game in both of his first two seasons and coming out of college, he was considered the best back out of the backfield. Good hands, vision and acceleration. He should have double the catches he has to this point.

Just like they underutilized Bryant. But they did balance that out by overutilizing Witten.

I think that is the plan for this season. Get him more involved in the passing game. Like they did with Emmitt after awhile.
Emmitt had 515 receptions on 545 targets for 3224yards, average 6.3 per catch. I think this included playoffs and SB's

We will ride him for 4 years. Maybe use the 5th year option. Trade him or release him after that .

Who cares if he is finished after this.

Still way too high of a pick for a RB in general. And we already lost 1/3 of a season of our investement. And i still dont view him as a special back. He is good no question. But he is not in the mold of gurley or peterson.

Normally good business, but not when you spent a #4 overall on him.

It was a bad decission. No question. But to keep him longer and so make a second bad decission just to balance the first is just stupid. Live with your mistakes learn from them and move on.

Agreed. You don't keep a RB past 7 years regardless. Ironically, if he's worth keeping, he's not worth keeping. ;)
