Video: O-line hitch nod to Landry

Those young first rounders sure might be little researchers in the offseason.

I don't see Garrett saying "Okay guys, look when we take the knee from Victory formation, I want you O-Linemen to do the 'hitch' from the old days. And then spending valuable practice time, getting it right?

Nah. I doubt Garrett even knows about the hitch, or its history. I bet these guys did this on their own and sprung it on everybody. Look at the clip, Romo seemed shocked - he'd never seen this.

There is no doubt in my mind that Garrett knows about the hitch. Whether he's the one that was the brainchild behind it or not, I'm not sure, but Garrett is very well versed on his football history and his Cowboys history.

Brought a tear to my eye.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing throughout the game.

OL wins games !!!

This was one of my few knocks against Bill Parcels. Similarly, I hated running that 3-4 in Dallas, much as I like the 3-4 philosophically. Just can't get past the AFC + Giants associations with that base defense.

That's a pretty ridiculous and childish reason to dislike a defense.

I just completely disagree. You hate the head coach.I get it. But surely a rational fan would expect Garrett to know the history of the team considering his bloodlines than a few recent first round picks.
You assume incorrectly. And no, I don't expect Garrett to know jack about the Cowboys under Landry.

Hopefully we will find out the genesis of this little move. It's nice we get to talk about Victory alot more this season.

I saw that and immediately thought of those O-Lines of the Landry era. Made me proud of them. They played with heart, determination, pride and class.

Would be really cool if they did that occasionally as a rallying cry, kinda like the Blue Devils slapping the floor on defense.

You're entitled to your opinion, Risen. But I'd disagree that it's childish to respect a defensive scheme but still not want to see it played in Dallas. There is more than one way to play defense in the NFL.

In any event, I'm surprisingly ok with having an opinion of what's 'ridiculous' that differs from your own.

Right, Landry invented the 4-3. The soulless, over complicated gadget 3-4 doesn't belong in Dallas.

Parcells never truly embraced the Cowboys. He was always good for trotting out former Giants, which was his prerogative, but I don't see any team under BP doing this for Landry.

Maybe not, but Parcells always spoke in glowing terms about Landry, and how generous he was sharing his knowledge and experience when Parcells was first starting with the Giants. Parcells had/has immense respect for Coach Landry.

Not sure if this is serious, or sarcasm. It's not lost on me that Landry originated the 4-3---while working as a coach for the Giants. And I don't think the 3-4 is a gadget defense. It's very effective. I just prefer to not see it being effective in Dallas. Especially when it's being run by an all-time great Giants head coach.

Other than that, I liked Bill Parcels a lot, and have a lot of respect for his career in general. Just as I respect the 3-4 defense, generally.

Maybe someone will ask. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if it is something the guys on the line just decided to do, on their own.

DAvid Moore on the ticket said he will try to track it down, see who's idea it was.

I wasn't being sarcastic at all. It made me sick to my stomach to see the 3-4 running in Dallas.

Where's the 3-4 ever been really all that effective? Or dominant? It is way too complicated especially as "coached" by Rob Ryan, the players freeze up because they have to think too much, and really - it's always been vulnerable to the run.

It's the hip defense to run though, shows you're cool and all.

I think it should be #1 in top 10 plays of the week...maybe need to flood the pundits about it...pump it up...

That was exponentially cool.

Another reason I like Garrett. He knows, embraces, and pays homage to the entire history of this franchise, not just his history with the team.

Ya, like his willingness to run and pound the ball

oh wait...nvm

You are incorrect. This was absolutely 100% the idea of Jason Garrett. I am pretty sure he probably learned a lot from his Dad who did scout for Coach Landry.

Parcells never truly embraced the Cowboys.

I'm probably wrong, but I could always just picture Parcells puffing on a big cigar, playing poker with his "Jersey boys" in some back room in New Jersey.

Telling them in between big barrel laughs, .. "yea Jerry is paying me $4 million a year, LOL, .. I can improve the roster pretty easily, but I promise you the Cowboys won't win anything while I'm in Dallas."

I always thought he punked Jerry.

He was Jersey and NY Giants through and through, .. nobody up there ever wants Dallas to win anything.
