Overshown had surgery Dec. 18 to address ACL, MCL and PCL tears in his right knee. He said his recovery timeline is nine months, not ruling out a Week 1 appearance, although the timing and severity of his injury mean it won't come as any surprise if he isn't ready for the start of the season. The 2024 third-round pick had a fantastic rookie year pre-injury, starting 12 of his 13 games and recording 90 tackles, five sacks, four pass defenses, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Overshown even had four games in which he played every defensive snap and four others at 85 percent or higher, earning a three-down role within the first month of his pro career. Would be almost like having excessive talent at the position for quite some time so I'm up on Overshown this season even if he is not ready by game 1 his rehab has been positive.

I'm really high on Overshown and seeing him walk around effortlessly right now gives you hope he can actually be ready earlier than initially projected. Maybe he doesn't pickup right where he left off and takes time to trust his knee and perhaps he loses a split second of speed but I still think he has the potential to be a multi time pro bowler if healthy. I guess the biggest question is if he's on the Sean Lee path very talented impact player that is just injury prone or with proper training can shake that label?

With his recovery the good news is he's not playing a position that relies largerly on speed and nuanced cutting to be effective. If he was a wr, rb, cb I would probably have more concerns about returning to the field.

Down. This kid’s made out of glass. He’ll never play a full season for any team he’s on.

down - its a 2 year recovery to get back to where he was and likly will be at best 80% of that..
I would have zero issues with him being at 80% which probably is better than most of his current competition here at his position.
He knows that nobody really cares until you get snaps and find a role again.

He may/may not be ready for the season opener. I'm leaning more towards not being ready. But at some point in the season he will come off the PUP or IR and start getting snaps. How many? A few more every game. The big question is at what level will he come back. 70%? 80%? 90%? I'd sure like to say I'm up but can't. I'm not going to say I'm down either. I'm in the "It's far to early to say" stage.

He is coming back from the trifecta knee event which means basically that he tore just about everything up in the knee.
Getting a healthy O back would be more beneficial to this roster than say like a Sam Williams.

He is obviously a playmaker whose issue is staying healthy.

Similar to what Malik Hooker once was. Hooker now stays healthy for the most part but also doesn’t make many plays anymore.

Overshown can head in many different directions, but he is an easy guy to root for and for the sake of him as well as the team, I hope he can kick the injury bug.

Yeah he's going to start on PUP, if not we're rushing him back too early for what reason??? If anything we could use him later in the season not now. Let the kid get stronger and get his therapy/etc in and hope for the best

At first, I thought the title of this thread referred to how we felt about "O" as in offense. And I was going to say down. LOL
But, then I read the first post and it was about Overshown. I feel up on him. I know he will be on IR for a while, but I have faith in this kid that he will overcome it.

I don't think week 1 is a realistic goal for him. The real question is can he return mid season or is he out all of 2025. Honestly I think the Cowboys need to go into the year with the assumption that Overshown will give you 0 in 2025 and anything that he can give you is a plus. Even if he does make a mid season return you have a very high probability that he wont be the same player right away.

I'm very up on the guy for 2026....for 2025 I wouldn't get my hopes up.
