Eberflus comments on defensive philosophy

New Cowboys DC Matt Eberflus on defensive philosophy: “It’s pretty simple, we take the ball away. That’s what we do. We stop the run. We want to make exciting plays for our football team. That’s really what we do.”

OK - We shall see! I really don't care about "exciting plays" - just ***** win!

He said WE he may be talking about one of his defenses that actually did it, not this one.

i love the emphasis on taking the ball away.
for years under garrett our guys seemed immune to it.
then the emphasis when mccarthy got here and they seemed to come in bunches.
he's got 2 corners that are good at it...3 if we keep lewis.
i also thinks this bodes well for wilson at s....who is good at punching the ball loose and a good run defender.
hopefully up-top looks for those "blinking lights" on the interior to help stop the run.

Wilson needs to be cut. Way too much money for what he produces

Translate........Quinn ( remember we led the league in takeaways)
If I remember correctly, his run defense as the Colts DC was pretty good.

I’m feeling refreshed and excited about the direction of the team and the new coaching staff.
However, I’m not naive enough to think this will translate to a great 2025 season. Our roster is crap, and it’s likely to become an even bigger pile of crap after free agency if we lose Lewis, Kendricks, Osa, and DLaw.

We do not have the WRs, RB, or OL to execute the philosophy at a high level.
We do not have the DL, LBs to stop the run, and CB is a scary thin position with multiple contributors coming off surgery.

Jerry would have to have a significantly improved free agency and a great draft to even compete with good teams. That’s the reality of how poor our roster is designed to play top NFL football against the better teams, which is what our new coaches are describing.

But this is the direction for which most of us have been clamoring during the past decade. It requires a commitment by coaches, players, and the GM. And it will require a little patience by fans. If you think changing our culture and playing bully ball with the top teams can be accomplished in one offseason, you will be calling for Jerry to fire everyone next season…..much like most Cowboys fans were calling for Jerry’s and Jimmy’s heads during the 1-15 season that followed the trade of our best player.

I'm not from Missouri. But I have zero faith in the Cowboys stopping the run until I see it with my own eyes.

Start by showing me you mean it in FA then finish the job in the draft.
Sounds like stereotyped support of courage. By the way, what did he state concerning the focus and skills he brings to the table?

I liked this support of current player.

Can Mazi Smith be a force for the Cowboys?
"Yeah, I'm excited about Mazi. I liked him coming out [of Michigan]. He's a real explosive athlete, with a big body type that can move really well. Excited about bringing his game to the next level, and he could certainly do that."

Yawn. Blah Blah Blah.

Wake me up when we make a Divisional Championship game, until then I don't care what any of these guys have to say.
Apparently not awake from the start...from the start...from the start. Just give me some football. Don't bother this fan with wake up drills.

He has 1 corner who has been good at it in his first 3 seasons, and 1 that will likely never be the same. We may draft a CB Rd 1

.....We want to make exciting plays....... That right there says it all. Forget exciting plays, it should be "we want to win the Superbowl". The Dallas Cowboys are a circus act, entertaining the fans is enough, let's be exciting.

I agree 100% with what Eberflus intends. There's much to do for that to happen. Let's wish him well and pray for a great draft!
