With Conor Riley being called one of the best College OL coaches it’s hard to believe his strategy his reputation would be to play the Cowboy with tenure and salary over the better set of tackles . G is good with Tyler Smith Brock Hoffman and Bass as depth . Beebe reunited with his old K state coach should be even better 2nd yr C .

The question of having an offensive line that can dominate get the run game in high gear pass protect is the tackles. I don’t think either L or R tackle is settled I say throw Asim Richards Nathan Thomas last yrs 7th rounder in a four way competition with higher paid more heralded Guyton and Steele . Steele in particular is a concern .

Throw all four tackles in a four way competition off season camp preseason. Let the best two tackles start on Merit not salary not tenure .

One thing about MM bothered me he never benched anyone . OL in particular seems back burner in the draft / FA . Let’s see what’s in the building .

Cowboys drafted 6 OL in the last 3 years including two 1st rounders.

It’s time to invest in the D to avoid more fourth quarter collapses .

I would like to point out the title of my thread was edited by MODS and it now reads like a KC run play in the SB … not translating . Be nice if the editor could clean it up . Great Caesar’s ghost get me Perry White .

Steele is cooked and Guyton was so technically inept he had no chance.

Guyton needs to step up but even if he does I do not see Steele getting better.

I think they seriously need to consider moving Smith out to tackle. It is much easier to find a guard and we actually have a decent floor there with Bass and Brockman already.

I’ve wanted the Cowboys best OL Smith to be the LT since they moved him to guard . You’re protecting Daks blind side . Hoffman Beebe & Bass can be the interior . Then you have these 4 tackles Guyton Richards Thomas & Steele competing for one spot . May the best man win . Then you have 4 comp picks draft a G 5th or 6th round as depth , you have plenty of tackles .

The reason your title was edited was because you provided a short thread title with no helpful/descriptive information which is required for threads here.

With your thread, it was either change the thread title, merge it with another thread or delete it and we opted to change the thread title to let it stay.

To clarify, we tried to use your first sentence as the thread title but it was difficult given how long and wordy the sentence was and the character limit for thread titles.

It would be very helpful if you provided a more descriptive title than just saying "O Tackle".

Short thread titles almost always get edited or deleted.

Thanks I see you edited your edit and cleaned it up .

Guyton and Steele were major disappointments last season
If Guyton was a major disappointment them your bar for him was too high to begin with.

We knew he needed work and knew he wasn't ready to start when he was drafted. During the season it was clear he was losing confidence which only hurt any development.

Nathan Thomas is 6’4 330 . Certainly has size to dominate an Edge. Hopefully he’s heathy and gets plenty of preseason reps .

You guys want steak at every position and lets not forget the coaches sucked as the year went on. Most threw in the towel because they knew we were done.

GM JJ told the team, dont bother to win, its not the goal.

Everything shut down, so stop the whining about this player or that.

Last season had so much rot in it, it was its own garbage land. Forget it and forget whatever you thought of it. Basically a whole new staff was brought in and THAT staff is limited to what JJ wants so again, opinions are just that until we know what JJ wants.

The Cowboys can have the best of the best , even on the field but if Papa JJ wants to lose, or be medicore, get ready, he knows what he wants and you guys will deal with it.

Ive posted this before and again was proven right.

The game, the league and the owners dont represent what you think it does, GET OVER THAT FACT. This isn the 80s or the 90s, an evil as come to roost and JJ has designed it. No matter what you think, cry, post, pout over JJ is not going to care and BEFORE you even postr it, no Stephen either, hes never been trained or taught to think about it. the family is going to ride the gravy train.

I will say, so far it looks promising, but we ve all been down this track with the same ending.

Lets see what FA brings, thats WAY more important than the draft.

Showing your age Superman. If the offensive line is better, will be a surprise to me.

Same argument with Martin for years. You don’t move a player with all pro potential at gaurd out to be an average tackle. His best position is easily at gaurd… leave him there!

If I was wrong and the actual bar was set at not ready to contribute then that’s even more disappointing. And if mentally he lost confidence because his performance was disappointing, that says enough.

I still would prefer Richards getting first crack at it so we don't have to move Smith. I'd have Guyton and Steele compete at RT and Richards "compete" with Smith at LT. I don't want to bounce Guyton back and forth, so unless it is determined that Steele is better, keep him at RT.

We need to have competition at each line position without investing a whole lot more resources into the line. The way I see it is:

LT Richards-Smith
LG Smith-Richards
C Beebe-Hoffman
RG Bass-Hoffman
RT Guyton-Steele

We don't know what we have in Thomas at the moment, and Waletzko needs to be put at LT instead of playing both sides, which I believe impeded his progress, along with injury.

I would also consider some veteran backups (Tyron Smith at LT if he's willing to come home on an incentive-laden deal and maybe Will Hernandez to join the RG competition). I assume that Martin will retire, but if he doesn't, we'll probably have to let him walk because he'll be in the position Tyron was in last year where he thinks he still has value as a starter.

For the first time is many years, I think what we will see in camp is open competition for all 5 starting positions along the Oline. Best 5 will start regardless of how they got here. This is why a fresh set of eyes and ideas with the hiring of the college coach. It's been needed for a very long time. Great hire. For the first time in a long while, there seems to be a plan. Now it's a matter of the fanbase to trust it.
