Hard to believe Conor Riley would play tenure and salary over better set of tackles

I still would prefer Richards getting first crack at it so we don't have to move Smith. I'd have Guyton and Steele compete at RT and Richards "compete" with Smith at LT. I don't want to bounce Guyton back and forth, so unless it is determined that Steele is better, keep him at RT.

We need to have competition at each line position without investing a whole lot more resources into the line. The way I see it is:

LT Richards-Smith
LG Smith-Richards
C Beebe-Hoffman
RG Bass-Hoffman
RT Guyton-Steele

We don't know what we have in Thomas at the moment, and Waletzko needs to be put at LT instead of playing both sides, which I believe impeded his progress, along with injury.

I would also consider some veteran backups (Tyron Smith at LT if he's willing to come home on an incentive-laden deal and maybe Will Hernandez to join the RG competition). I assume that Martin will retire, but if he doesn't, we'll probably have to let him walk because he'll be in the position Tyron was in last year where he thinks he still has value as a starter.
Like the Hernandez pickup

With Conor Riley being called one of the best College OL coaches it’s hard to believe his strategy his reputation would be to play the Cowboy with tenure and salary over the better set of tackles . G is good with Tyler Smith Brock Hoffman and Bass as depth . Beebe reunited with his old K state coach should be even better 2nd yr C .

The question of having an offensive line that can dominate get the run game in high gear pass protect is the tackles. I don’t think either L or R tackle is settled I say throw Asim Richards Nathan Thomas last yrs 7th rounder in a four way competition with higher paid more heralded Guyton and Steele . Steele in particular is a concern .

Throw all four tackles in a four way competition off season camp preseason. Let the best two tackles start on Merit not salary not tenure .

One thing about MM bothered me he never benched anyone . OL in particular seems back burner in the draft / FA . Let’s see what’s in the building .
And what IF Tyler Smith is still the best tackle of the bunch?

It’s time to invest in the D to avoid more fourth quarter collapses .

I would like to point out the title of my thread was edited by MODS and it now reads like a KC run play in the SB … not translating . Be nice if the editor could clean it up . Great Caesar’s ghost get me Perry White .

Best defense is a good run game on offense.

Tyron Smith last I heard gave up 7 sacks as a Jet . Much rather see what Nathan Thomas brings to the table . Waletzco is strictly depth and that’s if he makes the 53 at all . Like Parcells used to say you can’t play from the trainers room .

Would like to see Dallas invest in a true guard with one of the comp picks , T seems covered .
He gave up six sacks, but from what I read, he also had one of the highest rates of being left on an island. I'm not counting on much from Thomas at this point, but we'll see.

I still think Tyron as a backup is an upgrade to players like Edoga that we generally get for that role. I look at it like a Peters situation. Tyron should get no offers to be a starter after he showed in New York what we already know, that he can't stay healthy as a full-time starter. If he wants to continue playing, it will likely have to be as a backup. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if both he and Martin retire.

Dallas needs to stop bringing back ineffective older players they cut ties with once . See Elliott, Edoga needs to not come back either . Based on Thomas red shirt freshmen yr in the NFL and the miscellaneous way MM used Richards both need to be utilized this off-season and camp pre season .

Just my opinion, but from left to right the Cowboys line should be LT Smith, LG Bass, C Hoffman, RG Beebe, and RT Guyton.

Instead its LT Guyton, LG Smith, C Beebe, RG Hoffman, and RT Steele. I think Beebe is an okay center but he has potential to be great at guard. Steele improved late last season but I think it's time to get out of his contract. Guyton plays more like a right tackle and can flip over there.

Nathan Thomas is 6’4 330 . Certainly has size to dominate an Edge. Hopefully he’s heathy and gets plenty of preseason reps .
The word on most Cowboys podcasts is that it was more about strength. Both Thomas and Guyton needed a year in the weight room as neither was prepared for NFL strength. It has need said it was obvious in camp. 1. If Thomas is stronger this year, he will at least compete. 2. Guyton was actually fine t times and improved during the season, but he wasn’t strong enough, and many of his penalties (which were the reason he was not on the field) were the result of grabbing or trying to get off too quickly to get an edge.

This is if you believe the guys on Hanging With the Boys, The Draft Show, and several Broadus podcasts.

If he’s still on the board when Dallas comp pick deck of cards comes in round five G Willie Lampkin NC interesting prospect . He’s not quite 6’0” but a powerful blocker with a ton of college game action experience .

T to me not really an urgent need and Hoffman can spell Beebe at C but G seems thin when you get past Bass at depth. Good use of one of these comp picks if he’s still on the board.

He's played too many games, we only like guys that have upside and are new to the position, new to the sport, and have only play a minimal of 8 games in their career

Yeah, I think what you were alluding to was pretty clear.

We draft offensive line early and often, and it hasn’t really worked out lately.
Reaching out of desperation, is different then filling holes in FA and drafting best player available.

We drafted a RT, that never played LT, and started him day 1. We drafted a guard and started him day 1 at Center, when he never played Center before.

Now do I have hope of both of them developing, absolutely. However, I am pretty damn sure if those two moves did not scream rebuild, bringing back Zeke as the starting running back made it pretty clear.

Let's see what our clown of a GM can do, after promoting a Coach, no one even had on their radar for a potential interview.

Now let's see what his encore approach will be this off season, to help his new HC. Schotty needs all the prayers he can get.
