Is it me or is Bland below average without ints?

Diggs has been a vapor even before injury. Bland suffered not having a decent true 1 CB opposite him. He was also hurt. None of it helped. Carson has to step up big this year in some role or he's a bust . He was burnt toast last year. Looked terrible. Diggs needs to get his mind right and grow up. Stop making business decisions. If he's not giving his all, he must go.
For team character ... that is a trained element. This defense will be aggressive and better integrated and not just fancy technique that are set up for failure before the game even starts. Nose to nose and forged in fire!

Great consistent defense is built on front 7 and safety play in centerfield

Eburflus runs a zone defense where CBs need to be great tacklers but dont have to be top cover corners

I would cut Diggs, let Bland go if his demands are too much and sign a good DT, 2 good DEs, a good MLB and sign Lewis along with a couple of decent zone CBs

Then draft a DT at 12 (or after trade down) and LB i n rd 3

Now you have a solid defense you can rely on
Eberflus literally said that it all starts with man coverage, and we can work on zones later.

Or a trade up.

It absolutely depends on which DT is there. Too bad we missed a big one on Tavondre Sweat in the 1st last draft. Zimmer was screaming for him.

If Bland was below average... I'd think you'd have opposing teams piling up 100 yards passing frequently ..as well as multiudes of TDs given up.
and his coverage grades % would clearly show it.

- Recalling the Seattle - DK Metcalf game when he could not single handledly cover him, .and former DC Quinn had to re-assign the older Gilmore to handle the task.
i don't think Bland is in Diggs's league as a pure man coverage guy (when/if Diggs is not limited by the knee issues) ..but all around, i think Bland
has the better combination with physicality, tackling, run support to add to his already INT ball hawk skills.

- Unless Diggs' knee proves problematic concerning and there is founding truth to his lack of effort in rehab on a major planetary level, otherwise i'm not even
considering cutting Diggs,.. under a proper scheme fitting DC, i really want to see Diggs-Bland INT turnover skills best emphasized .. we have not yet
had the chance to experienced BOTH elite INT CBs in starting games at the same time.

I'm not daring consider Not having that element.

That will be the question on both of them as corners. Since we will run cover 2, they will have to come up and play the outside run. Of course, I doubt Diggs will be out there early and if we cut him now, we'd have to do it with an injury settlement.

I'd give it this year to see how both do primarily as zone corners before making any decision. I don't think Diggs is as reluctant a tackler as some do because there are times when he comes up and lays a hit. He got the reputation in the San Fran playoff game when he went for making a hit on the ball against Kittle and Kittle dodged him. That doesn't mean he's a great tackler or that he doesn't try to avoid blocking or getting run over by a back at times. It definitely is not his strong suit.

I think this season and the scheme that Eberflus plays will tell us who we keep or don't keep at corner ... but it may take the season to sort it out because Diggs will probably start the year on PUP.

If the 2024 stats (per PFF) mean anything:
Diggs - 56.6 overall
Bland - 70.1 overall

Diggs - 60.3 Coverage grade
Bland - 71.4 Coverage grade

In my eyes, INT's are a vastly overrated stat. Give me the guy that just gives up less yardage/better coverage every day of the week. To the eye test, Diggs looks finished. I'm hoping he just needed a little more time to recover, but now that he's re-injured, my hopes are dashed.

Bland should be back to his 2023 form this season. I believe he was still hampered by his injury after his return.
now that does not mean he will get all those INT's, and pick 6's. But he should be fine.

Diggs most likely will start the season on PUP. No matter what they tell us otherwise. You know they will be saying the goal is for Diggs and Overshown to start the season game 1.
However, do not expect Diggs back off PUP after 6 games. It will be more like week 12 knowing this team.

By then they (hopefully) have some success at Diggs' spot. So allow Digggs to play some until really 100%.

Not if Jalen Carter is there.

All trades should be considered depending on the cost and the quality of player involved. Cannot be called a bad idea w/o that.
Trading up is a bad option because the Cowboys aren't one player away.

They need all the draft picks they can get. Giving them away won't make the roster better.

Seeing how our players have struggled coming off ACL tears the last few years, I expected it to take some time for Diggs to get back to form and I think we were seeing some signs of it, but offenses were avoiding him a lot because of what we had on the other side.

Hopefully, the new injury won't need the same kind of recovery that an ACL repair does. I think Gallup said he wasn't fully functioning by the start of the season after his tear and didn't get to where he trusted it until later in the season.

It seemed to me that Diggs was recovering quicker than that until his new injury, which sometimes occurs when players are trying to compensate.

You don't respect the effects of getting the best receiver or running back ... player, and then focus positional holes?

Ive seen this movie for years and “one more year” will change nothing

Diggs absolutely does not want to tackle and will be even worse coming off 2 injuries

Bland is better but not worth his contract

Move on and build a defense by spending resources on front 7 and safety

Not trading up for DT

One of Graham and Nolen will be there at 12
