Mavs Trade Luka to Lakers

Thats one part. It is part of a bigger game being played by the Adelman partnership who bought the Mavs and want to build a new arena/casino complex in Dallas. The worse the team gets, the more leverage they have to make demands of local politicians who are obstructing them. Why else trade your best player for peanuts? As the team gets worse and worse and the fan base erodes, they can say to the politicians "let us build this here or we are moving the team to Vegas".

This explains why they accepted a poor deal for Luka getting very little in return. The NBA is thrilled bc they have one of their young superstars in a far more visible , lucrative market. They aren't going to step in and stop this obviously unfair deal. So, at the end of the day, the NBA and the Adelmans are in a better position. The only losers here are the Mav fans

The plan is already working as the team has lost over 700k social media followers and people are giving up their season tickets en masse. There is no way Nico hated Luka so much that he would sabotage his team and reputation.
Greg Abbott already caved. Not 24 hours after the trade he said he supported online gambling.
That would allow the Adelsons to opening a sportsbook on site of a Mavs resort with hotel and multiple[le restaurants, and place bets with their Sands casinos in Vegas.
Even my wife would want go and she hates both sports and gambling. But a brand-new hotel with restaurants and some high-end shopping and shes in.
Then in 2 years Texas can vote again on onsite gaming.

They own a massive plot of land right between the two major airports in Irving

Obviously the Mavericks would be better off sinking in the standings and going to the ping pong ball tournament . You never know heck they could snag pick one or two . If they make the 8th seed playoff team what good is that ?
agreed. they do not have their own pick next year so tanking this year in a very strong draft makes a ton of sense IMO.

but in this made for tv scenario say LA can get to 4th and Dallas 5th that is about as reality tv as you can possibly get......

I don't think that's unreasonable either
Houston has loss like 5 in a row and are down now against Dallas

We’ll explain this if they don’t have their own pick but end up playing ping pong what pick would they have ?

I know I'm rare amongst fans, but I hate. Hate. H*A*T*E...sports gambling.

It destroys lives and families. It is a seduction. It has accelerated the corruption of the on-field product and undermines legitimate competition in pro sports (how the heck could it not!?). Sports gambling might just be the biggest needle of the world sucking money from low/medium households, injecting it into the veins the predator rich.

CANCER. DEATH.

Wake up people.

I mean too much of anything is bad. There are people who spend their whole weekend watching college and pro football. They also spend money on it.

We all have our vices. Drugs, alcohol, gambling, junk food….sports gambling has always been here. Far more accessible but I’d also argue it’s far more watched now then 30 years ago.

not exactly sure what this means. Dallas has their own pick this draft. Also in 2026.
The 2nds have a billion conditionals, so I won't even try to figure that stuff out.

2027 is only top 2 protected then gone.
2028 is pick swap with the Thunder... so a trash pick almost certainly.
2029 gone
if you want to get young talent from the draft the next 2 drafts are your chance.

Oh thank you . So the Mavs do have # 1 draft choices next two drafts . That’s good because ping ping paddles might get them a top 3 pick hopefully and a bona fide college star . I thought someone said they had no pick next season .

So let’s take a scenario where you have already traded your # 1 next yr but you end up in ping pong bottom feeder. Does that mean you don’t qualify to draw a ping pong ball you just sit it out ?

Well he HATES the Lakers. He will still follow Luka but is lost on how to do it. Maybe once Lebron retires, he'll change his mind, but I doubt it. His dislike for them is of course driven home by his dad...lol

I do agree something is not right with this. With the ties to Kobe/Nike/Rob....this all seems too convenient. If the ownership wasn't so far out of the loop, this never would happen. They just don't get it.

Would not surprise me if Nico ends up back at Nike with a nice retirement setup.

The guy is done in Dallas....I don't care if they win a title...he'll be booood everytime he shows his face
Trying to explain to ppl it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. That’s what made dirk so special.

even If this group wins a title it will feelhollow to those of us that want the journey.

This isnt collusion, this is a stupid move by a bad GM
I know some ppl pretty high up in the league, like one level below csuite, you’d be surprised…knew a former cmo, league struggling. That’s all im saying…you very well could be right

Gambling is going to occur regardless.
And making it illegal in one state while other states that surround you reap rewards in tax and jobs is kind of nuts TBH.

Same as weed. Massive amounts of Texas money is spent on these things but there is zero benefit to Texans.
Texas has high property taxes yet poor education funding....
Legalize gambling and weed, fund schools and high-speed rails between major cities.

it goes to whomever owns your pick.
For instance, right now OKC owns Philadelphia's 2025 pick which is 7th overall. OKC gets richer, Philly sits out.
Also ATL's pick goes to San Antonio.

--some of these picks may be top 2,3, or 5 protected.
so its gets pretty convoluted but Dallas owns their own pick in 2025 and 2026 currently.

Well I don’t advocate losing but 8th seed is a one and done where as 9th seed is possibly a top 3 pick. I would not think an NBA commish with backbone would stand for a Dallas move to Vegas
