Remember Eberflus is a former LB Coach, his linebackers are the key to his system!

Yes the 3T is the engine to this scheme
I'm hopeful that that is why even if we sign Odighizuwa, we'll make 3-tech a draft priority. We need a solid four-man rotation at DT, so even if Osa returns, we need at least two more ... and to hope that Mazi continues to show progress. I'm not counting on Justin Rogers or Denzel Daxon or other probable scrubs we put on the practice squad.

So they dropped a 3rd on a guy to be the Mike but then not play him after a year of development?
Also, if we play Parsons more at end, then we'll need another LB even if we bring in a free agent, because of Overshown's injury.

that’s part of the problem, rotation has been over the hill veterans behind the starters. I would target two DT’s who have the ability to play either technique. I think Cowart/Williams might be some cheap signings they look to improve their depth as they have followed Eberflus in the past, but still have to upgrade their talent at the position

A third-round pick guarantees nothing, and frankly, I think Liufau is more of a Sam. MLB is one of the key positions in the success of this scheme, so we need to do what it takes to make sure that position is strong.
That may be but this is a horrible draft to chase a Mike. It’s probably one of the best drafts I’ve seen for 3tech and DT in general. They need to come away with 2 that can actually perform in this league with 3 being optimal.
It’s also much easier and cheaper to find a serviceable LB than an average 3T. Good DT play will make average LBs look better… not the other way around as evidenced by his defense in Chicago. Push comes to shove there’s always Clark as a fall back option!

There's only 1 or 2 MLBs in this draft capable of starting year 1, so Eberflus probably would be better served finding a veteran to bridge the gap for a year or two. The FA market at LB is decent, so the Joneses just have to get active and help this team.

I won't disagree with that. I'd prefer we use free agency for linebackers and focus on the DTs and RBs in the first three rounds. I'd take a couple of linebackers later just because we need to build some depth and see if we can luck across a late-round gem. Ideally, for me, the draft would go something like DT, RB, DT, LB, QB, RB, DT, LB ... although I acknowledge that the order would depend some of who is available. That's not all our picks, either, but you can throw in a WR or a G or a DE or a CB or whatever.

Of course, I'm strongly depending on us finding our WR No. 2 in free agency. If they let me down and don't do that, which is a strong possibility, it becomes a priority. In that case, I could see us doing something like taking Burden in the first, one of the RBs or DTs in the second and one of the DTs or RBs in the third. But I really don't want us to wait until the third to take either an RB or DT but the success rate goes down.

I’m guessing they figure they’re set at WR. They’re gonna give Tolbert every shot at being the number 2 and hedging that Mingo can be the possession receiver after having an entire training camp to get comfortable with the system. If not I think they’re comfortable with Brooks being able to handle it for the short term. Also that they’re a lot higher on Flournoy than what fans are!

Losing Overshown to possibly a career ending or career altering injury still stings, smh.

Dude was the real deal.
legit felt like the final straw. the season (and era) was already so disappointing, and he was the lone bright spot keeping me energized and optimistic. when he had that pick six the previous week it felt like a coming out party and poof. fricking sucks man and legit hurts.

some LBs i like and wouldn't mind wearing ☆...
