Video from Bears reporter on what to expect from Eberflus

When Dallas drafted Parsons I was expecting him to play MLB like Fred Warner making tackles like Overshown. They completely got lazy and didn't want to coach him up so they just put him at DE and let him free lance.
and they don't move him around they make it easy to scheme against him

They started him out at linebacker, but moved him to DE because of injuries. Then, he unleashed as a pass rusher and they saw that they needed to have him doing that. I think he's better suited for a 3-4 scheme playing outside linebacker, but any way you go, he's going to be rushing the passer because he's one of the best in the league at it.

I do wonder if LB will be high on our draft list since the most effective versions of this scheme had at least one elite linebacker. Since I do expect Parsons to spend most of his time at DE, even if we play him at LB on early downs, we need a top LB. Overshown looks like he could be the WLB in this scheme once he comes back, but we could use a dynamic MLB. I'd prefer to get one in FA, though, to focus our draft attention elsewhere. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me for the Joneses to bring back Kendricks.
Agree
I hate the hire
Overshown might not play most of the season
Parsons is not going to play LB predominantly
So now we have a near fulltime DE who is 250lbs and huge holes at LB and DT

Recipe for disaster

I'm a little indifferent to the hire. I think Eberflus has shown he can be a quality DC, but I don't think he's shown he can be a game-changing one.

But I'm also indifferent about all our coaching hires ever since I decided to focus on the fact that the problem with this team is the front office. I used to place a lot of blame on Garrett (and I still think he's a limited offensive mind), but we haven't been to a championship game in 30 years and Garrett was coach for only 10 of them. We couldn't even get there with Parcells, primarily because we saddled him with Quincy Carter at first when a good front office would have cut bait and got him a QB.

Eberflus should have been told the scheme is 3-4, and adjust. he does have a background in this scheme.

Not accepting mistakes and moving on quickly is a huge weakness of the Joneses

I fully expect a lot of Tampa 2 zone. And if they don’t heavily invest in a front 4 (really needs to be 6/7 deep) that can consistently wreak havoc and get pressure it will be a total disaster

I saw it
Almost threw up
Completely passive reactive scheme with no pressure
Will completely waste Parsons by lining him up at a predictable DE position consistently where the opposition can either run right at him or double him
What a complete waste
Yep everything is set up to fail. We're now entering into the Manning sweepstakes.
Don't expect any big name FAs to come to Dallas.
Cleveland wants Manning to be thier savior too.

Well, for all the complaining about Parsons' position being easy to predict, the kid has been a beast for Quinn and Zimmer, has been moved around everywhere, and what has it gotten us besides a sack guy who almost leads the league?

Has the defense been able to stop any team from running? Have we won anything in the playoffs?
This team has done nothing, so maybe we should give him a chance and bring some other guys into the mix; another way of thinking about it is that if teams are moving to Parsons in pass protection, that should make it easy to stunt, pass rush, or occasionally blitz where you know it will work because you know where the help will be.

I love Parsons as a pass rusher and guy who gives 100%, but if trading him would guarantee we would be top 5 against the run and top 10 in points, I'd do it in a second. I'm not actually for trading Parsons, just using it as an example. We need more help on defense, and we need a scheme that gives us a chance to stop the run.

I don't know if you hire a coach who specializes in one scheme, and has had success with it, and ask him to run a different one. I mean, we made Zimmer switch over under Parcells, but Parcells was a defensive coach, so Zimmer really was only running Parcells' scheme.

If we wanted to switch to the 3-4, then we needed to hire a 3-4 coach.

Parsons has been messed about by the Cowboys

Im totally with you about Parsons but the solution isnt to make it worse by lining him at DE constantly so teams can run right at him

Why is this so hard for a DC to comprehend? I mean, why can't they move him around depending on the situation/match-up? It makes sense to me. Having him as DE on the same side every down is a waste!! smdh
He moves around a lot. Last year they let him pick his side much of the time
