Whether you like Dak or not

This is why I don't understand fans saying Dak's contract is holding them back from signing free agents. Hell, I'll be to say, like many others, Dak isn't worth $60M but his contract has little or no impact on our free agent signing. That's on Jerry and Stephen.........using Dak's contract as collateral for their agenda.

His contract has never been the albatross that the Joneses made it out to be. We need to keep the pressure on the real source of the problem, the Joneses.

I think it has been made clear the Joneses do not believe in spending on free agents, regardless of the CAP situation. They have said as much repeatedly claiming that free agents are overpaid. Every year they find a free agent or two that costs them close to the minimum. They are completely inactive for the first 2 weeks of free agency. It has nothing to do with Dak.

But it is interesting that the OP does not include Dak's 2025 CAP hit of just under $90 million. That of course is going to hurt the Cowboys ability to spend in free agency. But it starts with their own guys. The Cowboys have a few free agents I am sure they would retain if not for the CAP. Guys like Lawrence, Lewis, Odighizuwa I am sure would be re-signed if not for the CAP. Signing Dak at a $90 million CAP hit is going to hurt. At some point, either this year or next if they restructure him again.

But unlike teh Eagles who are in a position to win multiple Super Bowls, the Cowboys are a long way from contending, which is why they should not be mortgaging their future now. Once they get closer to a winning team they can go all in.

Let's be fair, that's another cherry picked incomplete stat just to support a spurious point about Dak. We all know Jerry's the problem and giving Dak that most recent albatross contract is one of his worst decisions.
If you want to say Jerry didn't spend in FA (yes).
However, Jerry did spend on his own and spent on extensions.
Jerry did restructure, to enable the 12-5 seasons (resulting in Daks new CAP hit equating to 70m per).
The 2025-2028 contract is a massive albatross as we're stuck with a QB that's probably going to lapse into a pocket sitter and just needs too many additional parts (both sides of the ball)...whilst having to do it on a restrictive 4 year contract (as we don't have the benefit of restructuring, into another contract).

It may set us back 3-4 years.........especially since the Commanders and Eagles have taken huge steps forward.
Agreed.

Can't figure out if it was Jerry’s way of punishing Big Mike for the Green Bay debacle or if they genuinely thought that they hit on every young draft pick every year. Maybe it's both.

Well this years 89 million dollar hit with ban us from even getting UFL players yet alone signing bottom barrel guys!

As long as Dak is the QB the Joneses get a pass from me.

Dak is a loser.

Jerry is a better GM than Dak is a QB.

However, they both suck, Dak just sucks more.
