Would the Jones' ever make a move like this?

The Eagles would be lost without Roseman which is why they will never let him go. But Roseman would have an opportunity to turn around a wreck of a franchise. Don't know the man, but maybe that is something he might find appealing.

I doubt he would find it appealing… Not unless he had an owner that was willing to do the same things that Jeffrey Lurie is willing to do (write a lot of large checks). There’s only a handful of owners in the NFL that would be willing, even though they’re all filthy rich. They don’t all want to win as much as Lurie does.

It’s why I will never understand any cowboy fan the defends Jerry Jones (they are becoming fewer and fewer, but they’re still out there). He could very easily do the same things… He just does not want to.

Jerry used to be willing to write large checks. In fact, he was more willing to throw money around than pretty much any owner. The one thing he wasn't willing to do was let someone else be GM, and then he decided to stop throwing money around. I don't know if Stephen talked him into the current team philosophy or if Jerry came to the conclusion on his own, but they just decided that expensive outside free agents weren't the way to go. Despite teams like the Eagles proving that you can use free agency to supplement your drafts and low-cost players, the Joneses have stubbornly stuck to their philosophy.

I thought Will McClay was supposed to be our version of the Eagle's GM??????????
I think McClay's role is more: "We need to add a linebacker, Will, go find us one who will play on a one-year deal for just above the vet minimum." He's the one the Joneses make dive into the dumpster to find them fill-in starters. Apparently, he doesn't mind it since he keeps coming back for more.

He needs to stay away from Michigan players when it comes to the NFL Draft.

Howie Roseman is great, but most people don't give enough credit to the OWNER.

It's the owner that allows Roseman to be Roseman. He's essentially given him lifelong job security. This allows him to draft a guy that he knows won't play for 2 years, just because he's the best player available. That kind of decision-making is what's allowed them to accumulate enough good players where even the 2nd stringers could compose an NFL roster that would be better than a 3rd of the league's current starters.

But most GMs simply don't have that security, so they're forced to think no further than 1 year down the road.

I think lots of GMs (well, not LOTS, but quite a few) could do what he does if they had an owner like Lurie.

This is where smart owners would just mimic what Philly does, hire a top notch GM, and just tell him the job is his for 10 years no matter what, and mean it.

The very fact that Lurie doesn't really get any publicity or hype for how he allows his team to be run, is exactly why Jerruh would never do this. Lurie is invisible....unless he's hoisting a Lombardi. Jerruh wants more camera time than the starting QB. He'd rather suck and have the spotlight and the me-me-me-me-me-attention his infantile ego craves, than be invisible and win SuperBowls.

How horrible of an owner/person do you have to be to be like that?
